What they need

Position Overview

An established multidisciplinary engineering and surveying firm is seeking a Survey CAD Technician to support its land surveying team. This position will work under the supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) and assist with preparing survey drawings, processing field data, researching property records, and supporting field crews as needed.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble surveying equipment, and Trimble Business Center, along with a solid understanding of land surveying principles and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare boundary, topographic, tree, construction, easement, and ALTA/NSPS survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Draft subdivision plats, easement exhibits, metes-and-bounds descriptions, property exhibits, and other survey deliverables.
  • Process, review, and analyze field data collected using total stations, robotic instruments, GNSS equipment, and digital levels.
  • Use Trimble Business Center to process survey data and support drafting and field operations.
  • Research deeds, plats, easements, rights-of-way, and other public records to support boundary analysis.
  • Calculate survey points, alignments, areas, closures, offsets, and construction staking information.
  • Prepare field files, point lists, stakeout data, sketches, and other materials for survey crews.
  • Review survey data and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements.
  • Maintain organized project files, CAD standards, survey databases, and electronic records.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, project managers, field crews, and other technical staff to resolve project questions and obtain necessary information.
  • Track assigned work and communicate project status, scheduling needs, and potential issues.
  • Assist with field surveying activities as needed, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, as-built surveys, and monument recovery.
  • Operate surveying instruments and data collectors under the direction of experienced field personnel.
  • Follow established safety procedures and assist with maintaining survey equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other related office and field duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of land surveying technician experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center.
  • Hands-on experience with Trimble robotic total stations, Trimble data collectors, and GPS/GNSS equipment.
  • Working knowledge of survey drafting, field data processing, boundary research, and common land surveying deliverables.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with office staff and field crews.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to local project sites as needed.

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a full-time position with a typical 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. Some overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines, and scheduling flexibility may be available.

The role is primarily office-based and involves extensive computer use and prolonged periods of sitting. Occasional fieldwork, local travel, walking, bending, and lifting equipment or materials weighing up to approximately 25 pounds may be required.

Local travel to project sites may be necessary, with occasional overnight travel depending on project needs.

Compensation and Benefits

The firm offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, which may include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer-sponsored life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Retirement plan with employer contributions
  • Professional development and technical training
  • Mentorship and opportunities for career advancement
  • Support for professional memberships and industry involvement

Additional details regarding compensation, benefits, and scheduling will be discussed during the interview process.

Interested?

If you have experience with Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and land surveying equipment and are interested in a primarily office-based surveying role, we'd be happy to connect and share more details.
