Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our field operations team. In this role, you will work closely with the Survey Crew Chief to perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction stakeout, and utility location surveys across commercial and civil site development projects.
This is an entry-to-mid-level position ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating field technology, and supporting efficient site layout and construction execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Support: Assist the Survey Crew Chief with setup, operation, and transportation of surveying equipment (robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and digital levels).
- Construction Layout & Staking: Set, drive, and mark wood hubs, lath, grade stakes, iron pins, and flagging for utility line, earthwork, and building layout.
- Property & Monument Location: Clear brush/vegetation using hand tools, locate property corners, iron pipes, and underground utility marks using magnetic locators and shovels.
- Field Notes & Data: Assist with recording field observations, taking measurements, holding prisms/rods, and maintaining clean, accurate field documentation.
- Vehicle & Gear Maintenance: Maintain equipment inventory, ensure field supplies (stakes, paint, flagging, hardware) are stocked daily, and keep company survey vehicles clean and organized.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Physical Stamina & Lifting: Must be able to frequently lift and carry survey equipment, tools, and supplies weighing at least 50 lbs over uneven site terrain.
- All-Weather Adaptability: Comfortable and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including hot summers and cold winter environments.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a proactive attitude in supporting the Crew Chief.
- Communication: Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and communicate clearly on active construction sites.
- Valid Driver’s License: A clean driving record and reliable transportation to the shop/job sites.
- Education/Experience (Preferred): High school diploma or equivalent. Prior exposure to civil site construction, land surveying, or heavy civil development is a plus, but entry-level candidates willing to learn will be trained.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- 100% field-based role on active civil and land development jobsites.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, hammering, and lifting over rough, wooded, or sloped terrain.
- Full-time schedule with occasional overtime based on project timelines.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience.
- Opportunities for career progression toward Survey Crew Chief.
- Complete field equipment, PPE, and technical training.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
