This role supports roadway, highway, and municipal underground construction projects and offers a strong entry point into inspection, engineering, and surveying career paths. Whether you are someone that has prior construction inspection or surveying experience, or you’re looking to gain some hands-on field experience, this could be the role for you!

Why Join our Team?

  • Full-time opportunity with competitive pay, full benefits, and a company vehicle.
  • Be part of projects that shape essential infrastructure across California.
  • Work with a supportive team that values safety, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Gain hands-on training and exposure to inspection, GIS/surveying, and field engineer career paths.

Position Summary: As a Survey Technician, you’ll bring technical expertise, field experience, and a solutions-driven mindset to support our construction management and inspection teams. Your role will focus on providing accurate field measurements, staking, and layout support for public-works and utility construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Field Engineers, and clients to ensure precise documentation, compliance with plans/specifications, and timely project execution. Key responsibilities include:

Field Surveying & Layout

  • Perform construction surveying including layout, staking, topographic surveys, as-builts, and grade verification.
  • Collect accurate field data using GPS, total stations, and other surveying equipment.
  • Interpret and verify engineering plans, specifications, utility maps, and construction documents.
  • Establish control points and maintain benchmarks throughout the project lifecycle.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare survey notes, electronic files, sketches, and as-built documentation.
  • Verify field conditions and provide updates to Project Managers and Construction Managers.
  • Maintain organized, accurate records following CLAD standards and client requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies in the field and communicate recommended corrections.

Coordination & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, and utility agencies.
  • Attend project meetings and support kickoff discussions with clear layout requirements.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and survey needs in a timely, professional manner.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all CLAD Consulting and client safety procedures.
  • Conduct work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Ensure proper care, calibration, and use of equipment.

Ideal Candidate: This role is ideal for a field-savvy Survey Technician with hands-on construction surveying experience, strong technical proficiency, and the ability to independently support layout, staking, and documentation across utility and public-works projects. Your experience may include:

  • 2–5+ years of field surveying experience in construction, civil, utility, or public works.
  • Proficiency with GPS, total station, and related surveying instruments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering plans, grading, utilities, and construction methods.
  • Ability to work independently in the field; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of underground construction methods and jobsite safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in related computer software and technologies including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus.
  • Ability to travel onsite daily through various locations throughout California and/or parts of Nevada.

We offer company-provided benefits including health insurance, vacation, sick and holiday pay, 401k, and a company-provided vehicle.
