The Surveyor utilizes advanced surveying techniques and instruments to ensure accuracy of tunnel geometry, control transfer, and deformation monitoring. The role requires close collaboration with engineers, designers, and construction teams to provide reliable survey data essential to safe and efficient tunneling operations.
The Surveyor’s Key Responsibilities Are
Conduct detailed surface and underground surveys for tunnels, shafts, portals, cross passages, and associated railway infrastructure
Establish, maintain, and verify survey control networks, including transfer of alignment and levels from surface to underground
Set out and check tunnel works including:
Tunnel centerlines and profiles
Excavation limits and breakthrough control
Tunnel linings, inverts, slabs, and track bed elements
Use total stations, gyroscopic systems, laser scanners, GPS (where applicable), and other specialized survey instruments to collect accurate data
Perform as-built surveys and dimensional checks of excavated and completed tunnel works
Monitor and report on tunnel convergence, deformation, settlement, and clearance compliance
Analyze survey data to prepare maps, drawings, models, and reports for engineering and construction purposes
Identify potential underground constraints, geological interfaces, and construction risks that may impact alignment or excavation
Assist with tunnel alignment verification, grading, and construction layout development
