What they need

An exciting, hands-on opportunity to deliver practical sustainability outcomes across LT McGuinness projects and the wider business.

About LT McGuinness

LT McGuinness has been operating since 1950 and is extremely proud of its talented and dedicated team, many of whom have been with us for more than 25 years. When you join us, you'll quickly see that we do things differently. You'll become part of our whānau, where your wellbeing and safety are paramount, and you'll be supported to learn, grow, and build your career. We have projects in Wellington, Auckland, Manawatū, the Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, and Antarctica.

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate, a consultant seeking greater project responsibility and hands-on construction experience, or someone with a genuine passion for sustainability and the drive to build their knowledge in the construction industry. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants to turn sustainability requirements into practical site outcomes. The role combines Green Star delivery, sustainable procurement, emissions and waste initiatives, site engagement, data tracking and broader project coordination.

Your key responsibilities

  • Green Star delivery: Coordinate evidence, submissions, reporting and site actions.
  • Procurement and materials: Gather supplier information and track sustainable products and materials.
  • Carbon and waste: Monitor emissions, embodied carbon, waste diversion and resource recovery.
  • Site engagement: Complete audits, close out actions and build strong relationships with project teams and partners.
  • Planning and communication: Prepare plans, guidance and practical resources, analyse data and clearly report progress, risks and opportunities.
  • Business and project support: Contribute to company sustainability initiatives and broader project coordination while following all health, safety and environmental requirements.

Ideal knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • A relevant qualification in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, construction, architecture or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • An understanding of Green Star or other building sustainability rating tools is desirable; direct delivery experience is helpful but not essential.
  • Confidence working with data and documents, including spreadsheets, evidence registers, plans and progress reports.
  • Practical construction experience is desirable.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to follow up information and explain requirements to different audiences.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple actions and deadlines.
  • A practical, curious and self-motivated approach, a genuine passion for sustainability, and a willingness to learn.
  • Confidence building relationships with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
  • Flexibility to support changing project priorities and travel between projects when needed.

Why join us?

  • Join a respected New Zealand construction company with a strong team culture and long-standing people.
  • Turn sustainability requirements into practical outcomes on live commercial construction projects.
  • Work closely with experienced project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
  • Build hands-on experience across Green Star, sustainable procurement, carbon, waste, reporting and project coordination.
  • Develop your career in a role offering meaningful responsibility, learning and broad exposure across the business.

If this sounds like the right next step for you, we’d like to hear from you. Apply now via Seek, if you would like a detailed job description email: [email protected].

All applicants be a New Zealand Citizen or Resident or hold a valid work visa to legally work in New Zealand immediately. (Please detail your visa status as part of the application process). Applicants must also be willing to undergo police vetting and any other checks relevant to the role.
