Sustainability Engineer

About the role

The Sustainability Engineer focuses primarily on the execution and coordination of the Sustainability Roadmap, including energy reduction projects and implementing ISO50001 (Energy Management System) throughout the entire plant. The role participates within and beyond department boundaries, working effectively with corporate engineering/R&D, Plant Engineering and Production Department to develop energy improvement projects and implement the Energy Management System in full.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Knauf Insulation Management System requirements related to Energy Management and associated reporting
• Submit internal monthly sustainability reports covering Energy, CO2, waste water, SOx/NOx, packaging and Circular Economy
• Submit external sustainability reports including Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and CO2 verification (CPD/CSRD audits)
• Manage Energy Efficiency Measures (EEM) with monthly updates
• Update Carbon roadmap projects and Regional Carbon roadmaps
• Act as owner and single point of contact (SPOC) for plant level sustainability data; ensure meters are in place and calibrated, ensure meters and relevant process parameters are recorded in the data historian (OSIPI/Ignition) and ensure sustainability data complies with the Unified Namespace (UNS)
• Routinely update energy/CO2 forecast and carbon bridges
• Participate and support the generation of energy/CO2 budget
• Update Sustainability KPIs for energy team meetings and P&Q team
• Promote operational awareness of sustainability through newsletters, dashboards, CI Corridor, awareness training, and shopfloor presence
• Undertake energy audits and process checks (GEMBA walk)
• Coordinate sustainability projects at plant level; validate and communicate normalized savings, ensure project actions are sustained, manage CAPEX/CI/KATA projects
• Ensure compliance with ISO50001 - Energy Management; serve as principal auditee for ISO50001, participate in plant internal audits and management system review meetings
• Support generation of site master business plan (SMBP)
• Ensure all legal and other requirements related to energy/carbon are updated
• Maintain compliance with energy-related legislation
• Ensure energy action plan is updated including validated savings (Energy/cost/CO2)
• Ensure SEU register is updated and linked to energy action plan with associated baseline
• Monitor EnPI against baseline to demonstrate continual improvement
• Lead sustainability roadmaps and energy initiatives throughout the plant
• Develop, manage and maintain ISO50001:2018 Energy Management System
• Ensure subordinates follow Quality standards in daily routine
• Ensure Quality standards are implemented in the workplace
• Coordinate manpower for Quality training
• Ensure all responsibilities and activities meet required health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, obligations and duty of care
• Work in conjunction with Knauf Insulation Management on risk management, incident management, reporting and injury management
• Promote a culture of safe behaviour in all aspects of the position and workplace
• Ensure OH&S guidelines are adhered to across all KIMY premises

About you

• Bachelor's degree in science, Engineering, Chemical, technology or related field
• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Process/Manufacturing Engineering in a similar environment
• Experience in a similar industry (glass/insulation) highly preferred
• Lean Certifications and/or Green/Black Belt preferred
• Good communication skills in English; any other language is a plus
• Knowledge of product development
• Obtained Registered Energy Manager (REM1 & REM2) certificate
