Sọfúnmi is a speaking-first African language learning app designed to help learners move from memorizing words to holding real conversations. The platform features native tutors and speakers from across Africa, helping learners develop authentic pronunciation, understand everyday expressions, and communicate with confidence.

Through short, practical lessons and speaking practice, Sọfúnmi helps learners connect with their heritage, communicate with loved ones, prepare for travel, or explore new African languages. The app currently offers Yorùbá, Igbo, and Hausa, with more African languages planned.

Role Description

Sọfúnmi is seeking a Swahili Language Expert to help develop engaging, accurate, and practical Swahili lessons for our language-learning app.

This is a remote, contract-based opportunity for someone with strong Swahili language skills and the ability to turn their knowledge into structured learning materials. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, write lessons, explain language concepts clearly, and record audio for the lessons they create.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing structured Swahili lessons for learners.

• Writing clear, engaging learning materials, including vocabulary, dialogues, practical phrases, exercises, and speaking practice.

• Ensuring lessons reflect natural, everyday Swahili usage and accurate grammar.

• Recording clear audio for the lessons developed, including words, phrases, and dialogues.

• Reviewing and refining lesson content for linguistic accuracy, consistency, and learning effectiveness.

• Incorporating relevant cultural context to help learners understand how Swahili is used in real-life situations.

• Collaborating with the Sọfúnmi team to improve lesson quality and learner experience.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native proficiency in Swahili, with strong knowledge of spoken and written language.

• Ability to write accurate, engaging, and well-structured Swahili learning materials.

• Experience teaching Swahili, tutoring learners, developing curricula, or creating educational content.

• Ability to explain grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and language concepts in a way beginners can understand.

• Ability to record clear, natural-sounding audio for the lessons you develop.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to linguistic accuracy.

• Knowledge of contemporary Swahili usage, cultural context, and relevant regional variations.

• Experience in linguistics, education, translation, or language

-content development is an advantage.

• Familiarity with digital learning platforms or language

-learning apps is a plus.
