What they need
SWAP MECHANISATION ENGINEER
Employment Type: Full-Time
OVERVIEW
MOCX is building Africa’s clean energy infrastructure through innovative mobility and
energy solutions. Through its subsidiary, Rechaj, the company operates a Battery-as-a-
Service (BaaS) model that supports sustainable transportation by providing battery-
swapping services and energy infrastructure for electric vehicles.
As MOCX builds out its Research & Development department in Lagos, we are seeking a
hands-on Swap Mechanisation Engineer to join our Vehicle & Prototype Engineering team.
The successful candidate will design and build equipment that makes battery swapping at
our stations faster, safer and more efficient.
This is a chance to invent machines that do not exist yet in Nigeria. You will go from sketch
to prototype to equipment used in live operations, and see the difference your work makes
to the people who use it every day. If you love mechanisms, automation and building things
with your hands, this role is for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Equipment Design & Build
- Design, build and test battery handling and swap equipment, from simple tools to
automated systems.
- Develop prototypes and take the successful ones into everyday use.
Design & Integration
- Work closely with other engineering teams so equipment fits our vehicles and
stations.
- Build in safety from the start.
Piloting & Measurement
- Run pilots at live swap stations and work with station teams to get them adopted.
- Measure the impact of each change on speed, safety and cost.
Documentation
- Produce drawings, bills of materials, operating instructions and maintenance guides
for every piece of equipment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience building real machines (material handling, conveyors,
automation or robotics).
- Hands-on experience with actuators, sensors and machine controls (PLC or
microcontroller).
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar).
- Evidence of machines or systems you have built.
CORE SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Mechanism and Machine Design
- Automation and Controls
- Prototyping and Fabrication
- Safety-First Thinking
- Ownership and Speed of Execution
TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS (PREFERRED)
- Experience with robotics or industrial automation.
- Experience piloting equipment in live operations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This is a fully in-person role based at our Lagos office, with significant time at our
workshop and swap stations, including Sango-Ota. You will work closely with other R&D
engineers, station teams and the R&D Director.
WHY JOIN MOCX?
At MOCX, you will help build the technology behind Africa’s clean energy and electric
mobility transition, designed and engineered in Nigeria.
This is an opportunity to:
- Build equipment used in thousands of battery swaps every day.
- Take ideas from sketch to working equipment at real stations.
- Grow with a fast-expanding R&D department.
- Receive stock options and share in the company’s growth.
Work Location: In person, Lagos
Application Question(s):
- Are you comfortable working fully in person in Lagos and visiting stations in Sango-Ota?
- Briefly describe a machine or automation system you have designed or built.
- What is your salary expectation?
