What they need
Make a Splash at Work!
Looking for a job that keeps you active, fits around study or family life, and genuinely makes a difference?
You might be a university student with a flexible timetable, a parent looking for school-hours work, an experienced aquatic professional, or someone ready to swap the office for a role with a little more splash.
About the role
You’ll teach pre-school and primary school students essential swimming and water-safety skills through Swimsation's Learn to Swim programme.
Shifts are generally:
- Monday to Thursday 3.30pm - 8pm
- Saturday and Sunday 8am - 12pm or 8am to 3pm
- Available for a minimum 2 shifts per week
- Must be able to work at least one weekend day
Start and finish times may vary slightly depending on enrolments and shifts.
The honest truth about working around pools…
- You will get wet.
- Your hair may never look the way it did when you arrived.
- It can be noisy, with plenty of excited tamariki ready to learn and have fun.
- You’ll be active, demonstrating skills and engaging with swimmers.
- You may hear the same question several times in five minutes.
- You’ll need enough energy to keep smiling throughout your shift.
It’s active and sometimes challenging—but hearing “I did it!”, “That was so much fun!” or “Will you be here next week?” makes it one of the best jobs around.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be someone who:
- Is reliable and able to commit to regular rostered shifts
- Enjoys working with children and the wider community
- Communicates clearly and confidently
- Brings positive energy and a strong safety focus
- Is comfortable working in and around water
- Can stay calm, attentive and professional in a busy environment
- Is willing to learn and be part of a supportive team
- Has the right to work in New Zealand
Previous swim teaching, coaching, lifeguarding or customer-service experience is an advantage—but attitude, reliability and a genuine commitment to keeping people safe matter just as much.
Training can be provided for the right applicants. Appointment will be subject to the qualifications and safety checks required for the position, which may include first aid, lifeguard competency requirements and police vetting.
What do you get from it?
- Work that keeps you active
- Hours that may fit around study or family commitments
- Practical training and opportunities to grow within the aquatic industry
- A supportive team environment
- Plenty of laughs and some excellent work stories
- The chance to help tamariki develop skills that could save their lives
- Free swimming lessons for team members and their immediate families
