Position Overview

The Milwaukee Athletic Club is seeking a passionate, energetic, and professional Swim Instructor and Aquatics Class Instructor to provide swim lessons and lead group aquatic fitness classes for members of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.

Consistent Saturday availability is required. We are specifically seeking an instructor who can commit to a regular Saturday schedule. Additional weekday, evening, and Sunday opportunities may be available.

This position provides safe, engaging, and educational aquatic experiences. Swim instruction should follow American Red Cross standards. Aquatics classes may include water aerobics, aqua fitness, mobility, conditioning, and other water-based programming, with appropriate progressions and modifications for each participant.

Key Responsibilities

• Commit to a consistent Saturday schedule for swim lessons and scheduled aquatics classes.
• Teach swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels using American Red Cross standards and curriculum.
• Lead engaging aquatics classes, including water aerobics, aqua fitness, mobility, and conditioning.
• Plan structured lessons and classes appropriate for participants’ goals and abilities.
• Provide clear instruction, encouragement, progressions, and modifications to create an inclusive experience.
• Communicate swim-level recommendations and participant progress to swimmers and parents.
• Monitor participant safety and enforce pool rules professionally and consistently.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to aquatic emergencies.
• Maintain accurate attendance and participant records, and prepare completion awards when applicable.
• Inspect the pool and surrounding areas and report safety or maintenance concerns.
• Support the development and expansion of the MAC’s aquatics programming.
• Collaborate with the Athletics Department and front desk staff on scheduling, registration, and program coordination.
• Build positive relationships with members and provide exceptional customer service.
• Arrive on time, in appropriate instructional attire, and fully prepared to lead.

Qualifications

• Consistent Saturday availability is mandatory. Applicants must be able to commit to a regular Saturday schedule.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred for swim-lesson instruction.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
• Aquatic fitness certification or relevant group exercise certification preferred for aquatics classes.
• Experience teaching swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, or other water-based programming.
• Ability to work effectively with participants of different ages, backgrounds, fitness levels, and abilities.
• Strong leadership, communication, instructional, and customer-service skills.
• Dependable, energetic, professional, and team-oriented.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical duties required in an aquatic environment.
• Additional weekday, evening, or Sunday availability is a plus.
