Would you like to be an Engineer that builds the Cloud, rather than an Engineer that just uses it? At AWS, our Engineers look after the behind-the-scenes software and tools that make the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure possible.

We have an amazing opportunity for you to join a world-class network team in a dynamic environment that has the feel of a start-up. As a System Development Engineer you will help to deploy, manage, fix and reinvent the software tools, services and components that network engineering rely on to automate our network and keep it operational. You will actively be involved in innovating new software solutions to solve the challenges of operating the AWS network. Your internal customers are your network engineer colleagues, and through close collaboration, support and exchange of ideas, we share a common goal to serve our external customers and grow through learning and innovation.

If you are exceptionally motivated and passionate about the work you do then we welcome you to join us, working in an Agile environment with the most advanced tools, processes and talented people in the industry to make the Cloud a reality.

Key job responsibilities

  • Developing and growing innovative, production-quality tools to solve real operational problems for our network
  • Support the refinement of system requirements, participate in the development and delivery of operability-related features such as system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, and other self-healing automation
  • Adapt and improve operations management systems and processes to accommodate rapid and increasing growth in systems and traffic
  • Participate in the design and execution of production acceptance tests and new hardware evaluations
  • Monitor the health of the fleet, automating system health, maintenance tasks, and reporting systems as needed
  • Participate in “on-call” rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.

A Systems Development Engineer (SysDE) is responsible for maintaining their team's services, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues that arise within their systems. They will utilize existing testing, monitoring, and validation tools on their services and infrastructure to ensure their team can continuously deploy new versions with minimal interruption. A SysDE will contribute to automation improvements and tools to reduce manual operations, to fulfill the requirements of the business and their customers.

About The Team The Systems Development team manages all of the software services and platforms that builds, operates, monitors and assures the AWS network within entire regions. We design and implement automation and new software solutions to improve operational efficiency on behalf of our Network Engineer customers. We're at the forefront of powering AWS's vast network infrastructure, transforming complex operational challenges into scalable systems that enhance the reliability and efficiency of one of the world's largest cloud networks.
