System Engineer (Mid/Senior)

Embotech is an award-winning software scale-up developing cutting-edge autonomous driving technology and solutions for autonomous vehicles, with a focus on private ground applications such as trucks at port terminals and passenger cars in factories. We are delivering safe autonomous transportation by leveraging the real-time optimization technology that we have been developing since 2012. We are looking for a Senior System Engineer based in Munich or Zurich to take system-level ownership of our Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) solution — safety-certified and in production since 2024 and moving more than 2,500 vehicles autonomously every day. You will join the AVM System team, the interface between software development teams and application engineers. We own the solution end to end, and in this role, you will shape its system architecture, define requirements and validation, analyze safety, and prototype new features, in simulation and on real vehicles. In this position you’ll occasionally need to visit our customers, which are currently based in Germany, UK, and USA. Responsibilities:

• System and software architectural design in close collaboration with cross-functional teams

• Definition of system requirements, interfaces, and test specifications across infrastructure, backend, and vehicle

• Software prototyping and development of new features for the AVM system

• Safety analysis (ISO 13849)

System and software integration including testing in simulation and on real vehicles (mostly on customer sites)

• Log data analysis and problem solving for a system running in production, as technical counterpart to the application engineers

Requirements:

• MSc in computer science, robotics, mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field

• 3+ years of relevant experience in system engineering, development robotics, or software

• Experienced in LiDAR sensor technology and point cloud analysis

• Hands-on experience with Linux, proficiency in Python and C++

• Experience in requirements engineering, interface specification, and test methods

• Experience with functional safety of machinery or vehicles (e.g., ISO 13849, ISO 26262) is a plus

• Self-driven team player with a hands-on mentality

• Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites for testing of new features and releases

• Fluency in spoken and written English, German is a plus
