Systems Administrator

ColoHouse is seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Systems Administrator to help maintain reliable, secure, and high-performing IT infrastructure. This role focuses on system administration, infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support in an environment where system availability and service reliability are important.

The Systems Administrator will support server environments, operating systems, system configurations, and routine maintenance activities. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, understands infrastructure management, and can work collaboratively with technical teams to resolve issues and improve system performance.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and operating systems.
• Monitor system health, availability, capacity, and performance to identify potential issues.
• Perform routine system maintenance, software updates, and security patching.
• Manage user accounts, access permissions, and authentication settings where applicable.
• Investigate system alerts, service interruptions, and infrastructure performance issues.
• Support network services, including DNS, DHCP, VPN connectivity, and related configurations.
• Maintain system backups and assist with recovery and disaster recovery procedures.
• Document system configurations, maintenance activities, incidents, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Assist with virtualization platforms and cloud-based infrastructure as required.
• Apply security best practices to help protect systems, applications, and business information.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, networking, and technical support teams to resolve complex incidents.
• Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and monitoring processes.

Requirements

• Experience in systems administration, IT infrastructure, or a related technical role.
• Knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs.
• Experience with system monitoring, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
• Familiarity with access management, security updates, and backup procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document technical processes and communicate clearly with team members.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and respond appropriately to infrastructure incidents.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
• Knowledge of scripting with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
• Understanding of configuration management and automated infrastructure processes.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity controls, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
• Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft certifications, or Linux administration certifications.
