Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer will join the instrument R&D team to support development of new instruments for clinical applications. The role focuses on hands-on test execution, product verification and validation, and clear reporting of test data. The job holder will take ownership of assigned test activities from planning through to reporting, supported by a senior engineer. The candidate should have a data-driven mindset, be methodical and self-directed and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team across mechanical, electronic, firmware, software and biochemistry.

Responsibilities

• Execute test plans and protocols for design verification and validation, working from product requirement specifications.
• Take ownership of assigned test parameters from protocol drafting through test execution, data analysis and reporting, with senior engineers providing technical review.
• Design and run tests that characterize accuracy, precision and repeatability of instrument performance, and confirm the test setup itself is capable of measuring to the required resolution.
• Execute design verification test (DVT) and engineering study protocols to verify end-to-end instrument workflows and use cases.
• Set up test rigs and fixtures, run tests, and collect, organize and analyze test data using Excel and/or Python to produce clear quantitative results.
• Apply basic statistical methods to test data; learn and apply DOE and other statistical tools, with coaching available as needed.
• Record, reproduce and track defects and bugs; investigate to narrow down likely causes before engaging the relevant design engineers on root cause.
• Present test results and conclusions clearly to the project team to support design decisions.
• Support development of calibration and specification test protocols for instrument manufacturing, and support new product introduction.
• Support mechatronic system integration, performance and reliability testing during product development.
• Contribute to design risk assessment activities (e.g. FMEA) for assigned areas.
• Maintain accurate test documentation, data records and traceability in line with R&D and quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Diploma degree in engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical/electronic, mechatronics, or related).
• 1–3 years’ related experience in product development, testing, or verification and validation. Candidates with strong internship or academic project experience will also be considered.
• Data-driven mindset — self-motivated in collecting, organizing and analyzing experimental data to support engineering decisions.
• Comfortable managing and analyzing large test data sets, and able to turn raw measurement data into clear conclusions.
• Working knowledge of basic statistics, including accuracy, precision and repeatability concepts; exposure to DOE or other statistical analysis tools is a plus (training will be provided).
• Able to troubleshoot hands-on and work through technical problems with a structured approach; willingness to learn root cause analysis tools.
• Competent in Excel; familiarity with Python or other scripting for data analysis is a plus.
• Exposure to the biomedical, medical device or laboratory instrument industry is a plus; exposure to design risk assessment (FMEA) or design controls is a plus.
• Self-motivated team player — meticulous, able to manage own schedule and priorities, with good oral, written and presentation skills and a willingness to learn.
