TerraTherm is looking for reliable, mechanically skilled Operators to safely and efficiently operate process equipment in thermal remediation projects. This hands-on field role suits individuals who enjoy troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring systems, problem-solving, traveling, and collaborating within a project team. The specific Operator level offered will depend on the candidate’s verified experience, education, licenses, technical skills, and familiarity with industrial or environmental process equipment.
Position Summary
The Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and documenting vapor and liquid treatment systems on TerraTherm projects. Primary duties include routine system rounds, collecting process data, responding to alarms, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, sampling, conducting equipment inspections, handling shift turnover, and coordinating with project management and project engineering. Operators also support construction, system modifications, startups, shutdowns, and demobilization as project needs require.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Operation: Safely operate and monitor assigned vapor and liquid treatment equipment in accordance with work plans, operating procedures, permit requirements, and project direction.
- Perform routine system rounds, inspections, sampling, meter readings, and data collection accurately and according to schedule. Review and promptly report any abnormal readings or changing conditions.
- HMI and Alarm Response**:** Monitor onsite and remote HMI functions, system status, alarms, setpoints, and interlocks within assigned authority. Respond to alarms, including after-hours events, within the timeframe established for the project.
- Maintenance and Equipment Care: Perform assigned cleaning, filter changes, lubrication, inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and replacement of malfunctioning components. Maintain tools, spare parts, and operating supplies.
- Troubleshooting: Use field observations, operational data, alarms, manuals, meters, and logical checks to identify issues with equipment, mechanical, electrical, control, communication, or process systems during training and qualification. Escalate problems quickly to avoid impacts on safety, compliance, or system availability.
- Treatment Equipment: Develop working knowledge of the assigned project equipment, which may include pumps, tanks, filters, blowers, vapor and liquid treatment components, oxidizers, accelerators, VGAC, MPEs, SCRs, heaters, controls, communications, instrumentation, boilers, and steam components.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate operator logs, sampling records, alarm-response records, equipment service reports, maintenance records, inspection records, daily reports, and other project documentation.
- Communication: Communicate operating status, maintenance needs, abnormal conditions, equipment failures, supply needs, and lessons learned to the appropriate site lead, Project Engineer, Project Manager, or Field Supervisor.
- Team Support: Work professionally with Operators, Field Technicians, Foremen, supervisors, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and office personnel. Provide instruction to less experienced employees as assigned.
- Cross-Phase Support: Assist with construction, equipment installation, piping repairs, system modifications, startup, shutdown, maintenance outages, and demobilization when trained, qualified, and assigned.
- Housekeeping and Security: Keep process areas, workspaces, vehicles, tool trailers, equipment, and company-provided accommodations clean and organized. Secure tools, equipment, and supplies before leaving the site.
- Administrative Reliability: Submit accurate timesheets, expense reports, receipts, Cascade Cards, training items, and other required documents on time.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Read, understand, and follow the site Health and Safety Plan, Activity Hazard Analysis or Job Safety Analysis, daily pre-task plan, operating procedures, and project-specific requirements.
- Actively participate in daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, hazard recognition, Cascade Cards, inspections, and Stop Work Authority.
- Apply required controls for electrical hazards, lockout/tagout, pressure, temperature, chemicals, rotating equipment, hot surfaces, fuel, confined spaces, hot work, lifting, and other hazards applicable to assigned systems.
- Monitor safety equipment and operating conditions, identify concerns, and take appropriate action within training and authority.
- Report incidents, near misses, unsafe and changing conditions, alarms, equipment damage, and system concerns immediately..
- Perform only tasks for which the employee has been trained, qualified, authorized, and assigned. Seek qualified support when the work surpasses the employee’s authority or capability.
Physical Demands:
This role involves moderate physical effort over 8 to 12-hour shifts. Responsibilities may include standing and walking for long periods, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting or carrying tools, equipment, filters, hoses, and consumable items up to 50 pounds. Employees should be able to perform operational, construction support, and maintenance tasks while wearing required personal protective gear and working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Work Environment and Travel:
Operators work at active industrial, construction, and environmental-remediation sites that require special safety precautions. Work may occur around operating process equipment, moving machinery, pressurized piping, electrical systems, hazardous substances, elevated noise levels, hot equipment, uneven terrain, and changing weather. This is a travel-based position with extended assignments at project locations throughout the United States. Rotational schedules, overtime, weekends, holidays, night work, shifting shifts, on-call responsibilities, and after-hours alarm response may be required based on project needs.
