We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Tabla Tutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and practical experience in playing and teaching Tabla, with the ability to inspire children and young learners to develop their musical skills, confidence, creativity, and appreciation of Indian classical music.

The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and patient teacher who can adapt lessons to suit different ages, abilities, and learning styles. Strong communication skills and a positive, encouraging teaching approach are essential. Experience working with children and young learners is required, while experience in special education is an advantage but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group Tabla lessons to children and young learners.
• Teach Tabla techniques, rhythms, compositions, taal, and repertoire appropriate to the student's age and ability.
• Develop engaging, structured lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and learning goals.
• Introduce students to Indian classical music and the fundamentals of Tabla in an enjoyable and accessible way.
• Prepare students for performances, concerts, recitals, and other musical events.
• Prepare students for relevant Tabla examinations and graded assessments where appropriate.
• Assess student progress regularly and adapt teaching methods to support continued development.
• Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding student progress, attendance, and development.
• Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment that builds students' confidence and enthusiasm for music.
• Encourage students to practise effectively and develop good playing techniques and musical discipline.
• Support school music activities, cultural events, clubs, ensembles, and performances when required.
• Maintain appropriate professional standards when working with children and young people.
• Stay updated with relevant music education practices and teaching methodologies.

Experience & Requirements

• Previous experience working with children in an educational or music teaching setting is essential.
• Proven experience playing and teaching Tabla.
• Strong understanding of Indian classical music, rhythm, taal, and Tabla repertoire.
• Ability to teach students from beginner to intermediate/advanced levels is desirable.
• Experience preparing students for Tabla examinations or structured graded programmes is desirable.
• Performance experience is an advantage.
• Experience working with children with additional educational needs is advantageous but not required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Patience, reliability, enthusiasm, and a positive approach to teaching.
• A genuine passion for Tabla and music education.
• Ability to motivate students and help them develop their musical abilities and confidence.
• Candidates must be willing to provide the appropriate safeguarding documentation/background checks where required.
