Tableau Server Admin

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Tableau Server environments to ensure stability, availability, and optimal performance.
• Manage users, groups, sites, projects, roles, and permissions.
• Monitor Tableau Server health, performance, capacity, and system utilization.
• Perform Tableau Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot server issues, workbook failures, extract failures, connectivity issues, and performance concerns.
• Manage and monitor data sources, extracts, refresh schedules, and background jobs.
• Configure and maintain authentication through Active Directory, LDAP, or other enterprise authentication platforms.
• Monitor server logs and investigate system alerts and errors.
• Support backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability activities.
• Collaborate with Tableau Developers, Data Engineers, Database Administrators, and Infrastructure teams to resolve technical issues.
• Develop and maintain Tableau Server administration procedures, standards, and technical documentation.
• Support capacity planning, performance tuning, and overall environment optimization.
• Implement and maintain appropriate security and governance controls for Tableau content and data.
• Provide technical support and guidance to Tableau users and development teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–5 years of hands-on experience in Tableau Server Administration or a closely related BI platform administration role.
• Strong experience with Tableau Server user, site, project, role, and permission management.
• Experience with Tableau Server monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Experience managing Tableau extracts, data sources, schedules, and background processes.
• Hands-on experience with Tableau Server upgrades, patching, configuration, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server environments.
• Experience with Active Directory, LDAP, or enterprise authentication.
• Strong understanding of databases, networking, and system connectivity.
• Knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server migration.
• Knowledge of Tableau Server REST API and Tabcmd.
• Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Python, or similar tools.
• Experience supporting Tableau Server in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
• Experience with Tableau Server backup and disaster recovery.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Tableau certification is a plus.
