What they need

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) serves as the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Since our establishment in 1986, KAMS has provided a unified voice for Aboriginal health and well-being, advocating for community needs and delivering centralised resources in partnership with our Member Services.

Our vision is to empower all Kimberley Aboriginal people to be strong, healthy, and connected through culturally appropriate community-controlled services. We are committed to holistic health outcomes in collaboration with Aboriginal-led organisations, integrating Aboriginal culture and knowledge into our service delivery.

Position Overview

The Tackling Indigenous Smoking Coordinator will be based in Broome on a Full-time basis and will report to the Population Health Senior Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a significant regional population health program delivered through KAMS member services. Working across a geographically diverse network of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, you will build strong partnerships, strengthen program capacity and ensure TIS activities are responsive to the priorities and needs of Kimberley communities.

The role will provide strategic leadership, program coordination and operational oversight, supporting member services to establish meaningful goals, implement effective activity workplans and deliver outcomes that contribute to reducing tobacco and vape use and increasing awareness of its harmful effects.

You will represent KAMS and its member services across regional, State and national forums, develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, and provide high-level strategic advice to KAMS Senior and Executive Managers. You will also oversee program budgets, contractual obligations, evaluation and performance reporting, ensuring the program is effectively governed, accountable and aligned with the principles of Aboriginal Community Control.

  • Ensure appropriate Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program leadership

  • Ability to lead a population health program which is geographically dispersed and embedded into partner services
  • High level financial management, reporting and evaluation skills
  • Commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community Control and demonstrated knowledge of cultural safety principles and practices
  • Current National Police Certificate and Western Australian Working with Children’s Check.
