Job description:

Quick Summary

Cedar Security is hiring uniformed, tactical security guards for retail locations in the Greater Montréal area. You will serve as the visible security presence on-site — your job is to deter theft, ensure the safety of staff and customers, and respond to incidents as they arise.

About Cedar Security

Cedar Security is a rapidly-growing 100% Canadian-owned and operated company operating across Canada. At Cedar our employees are people, not just numbers: we take employee retention, training, and ongoing development seriously. If you are someone who also takes your work seriously and values professionalism, reliability, and an opportunity to grow and advance your career, then we would love to hear from you!

We are also the only security company with a recruiting program specifically for candidates who have long-term aspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement or related private and government fields. This program provides guards with advanced training in all areas of security, and postings that offer unique challenges, including arrest experience and regular interactions with law enforcement.

Full Job Summary

We are seeking a vigilant and professional Tactical Retail Security Guard to ensure the safety and security of our retail environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring premises, preventing theft, and maintaining a secure shopping experience for customers and staff. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to respond effectively to security incidents. Prior security experience is preferred, but character and reliability matter more.

Your duties may include:

  • Monitoring store entry and exit points
  • Conducting regular foot patrols of the sales floor and back-of-house areas
  • Responding to shoplifting incidents, disturbances, and emergencies
  • Assisting with store opening and closing procedures
  • Writing clear and accurate incident reports after every event
  • Providing basic crowd management during high-traffic periods
  • Coordinating with store management and law enforcement when necessary

This is not a desk job. You will be on your feet for the duration of your shift, staying alert and staying visible. Retail security requires patience — most of the job is presence and observation. But when something does happen, you need to respond quickly, professionally, and within the boundaries of the law.

Shifts vary based on store hours and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. You may be assigned to a single location long-term or rotate between sites depending on client needs. Cedar provides site-specific orientation and ongoing training and support for all employees.

Requirements

  • Valid Québec Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP) agent licence in the security guard category (required)
  • French proficiency sufficient to communicate with customers, staff, and emergency services (required)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (preferred)
  • Professional appearance and demeanor — you are representing both Cedar and the client
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts)
  • Strong observational skills and situational awareness
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write clear incident reports using professional language
  • Reliable and punctual — showing up on time, every time, is a baseline expectation
  • Previous retail security or customer service experience is preferred but not required
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision

If this sounds like you then apply to join our team and help keep your community safe!
