Taekwondo instructor

About the role (Skill Level 4/5)

• Located on the Paraparaumu Beach of New Zealand
• 30 hours a week (full time) teaching students aged 4 years to 60+ years
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends

Essential skills

• Great people skills and a desire to make a difference to our students
• Demonstrated achievements as a Taekwondo athlete
• Black belt in Taekwondo - Olympic Style (or above)
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in coaching Taekwondo teams

Desirable skills

• Fluent in another language as well as English as many of our students are from migrant backgrounds
• Training in skills that support athlete recovery e.g. sports massage
• Experience in other martial arts e.g. Karate
• Experience in working with neurodiverse students, including those with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder

Key Responsibilities

• Coaching, training, and instructing Taekwondo athletes by analysing performance and developing technical, tactical, and physical abilities.
• Supervising and leading practice sessions in a safe, structured, and disciplined training environment.
• Providing one-to-one coaching sessions to support individual athlete development, performance improvement, and grading preparation.
• Arranging entries into sporting competitions and travelling with athletes to regional and national sporting events within New Zealand in a coaching and supervisory capacity.
• Monitoring athlete progress and conducting performance evaluations to identify development needs and competition readiness.

We are a large martial arts club with over 450 members. You must be an exceptional trainer to fill this position. You must also be open minded in learning and using our teaching methods.
