What they need

Description About Grimes S&C Tax Advisors, LLC For nearly five decades, Grimes S&C Tax Advisors, formerly Stevens & Ciccone Associates, P.C., has served as a trusted advisor to individuals and businesses throughout the greater Boston area. Based in Needham, MA, we are a boutique accounting and tax firm specializing in personalized tax planning, accounting, and advisory services, with a strong focus on building long-term client relationships.

Now part of Grimes & Company Wealth Management, S&C combines the personalized service and deep tax expertise of an established local firm with the broader resources and capabilities of a comprehensive wealth management organization.

At Grimes S&C Tax Advisors, we are committed to delivering thoughtful, high-quality advice while preserving the trusted relationships, responsiveness, and individualized service that have defined our client experience.

Position Summary Grimes S&C Tax Advisors is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our team. This is a hands-on role for a seasoned tax professional who will continue to prepare complex returns while managing assigned engagements, client relationships, deadlines, and workflow through completion.

The Tax Manager will review work prepared by Tax Accountants and Senior Tax Accountants, provide tax planning and research support, and serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients. Final sign-off on tax returns will remain with an appropriately credentialed and firm-authorized signer.

Because Grimes S&C Tax Advisors is a small, collaborative practice, the Tax Manager is expected to remain directly involved in tax preparation and client work while also providing guidance and oversight to other members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts, and other entities, as applicable.
  • Manage assigned client engagements from information gathering through completion, including deadlines, workflow, deliverables, and quality of work.
  • Review returns, workpapers, and supporting documentation prepared by Tax Accountants and Senior Tax Accountants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, developing strong relationships and responding to tax, accounting, and planning questions.
  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support and identify opportunities to improve clients' overall tax positions.
  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and developments and apply them to client-specific situations.
  • Assist clients with tax notices, inquiries, audits, and correspondence with federal and state taxing authorities.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and feedback to developing members of the tax team.
  • Collaborate across Grimes S&C Tax Advisors and Grimes & Company Wealth Management, identify process improvements, maintain accurate records, protect confidential information, and perform additional tax and client-service responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax preparation, compliance, and planning experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and managing client engagements and deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience serving as a primary client contact and providing tax planning and advisory support.
  • Demonstrated ability to review work and provide guidance to less experienced tax professionals.
  • Excellent analytical, research, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • CPA, EA, or other relevant professional credential preferred but not required.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess and QuickBooks preferred; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Benefits

  • 401(k) retirement plan with 6% match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Summer Fridays Off
