TB DOTS Nurse

Brief Job Description:

1. Provides information, education, and communication materials, and gives informal TB Lectures.

2. Assists the physician in counseling and initiating treatment for TB patients.

3. Follow-up outcome of referrals and provides feedback to the referring MD on the outcome of treatment (SMS, email, and phone calls).

4. Ensures that the referral slips/ forms (NTP Laboratory Request, TB Referral Logbook, and NTP Intra-Hospital Referral) are filled out prior to referring the patient.

5. Follows up cases until discharge or until with definite diagnosis/disposition.

6. Fills out the NTP TB Register, Treatment Card, and ID Cards for TB patients.

7. Updates the referring facility and physician on the status of the referred patient

8. Coordinates with the hospital administrator and NTP coordinators (policies, regulations).

9. Ensures cases are properly recorded and followed up (SMS, email, and phone call).

10. Facilitates requisition and distribution of anti-TB drugs, laboratory supplies, and forms.

11. Maintain records on logistics and ensure proper storage of drugs.

12. Provides clearance for the patient prior to his/her discharge from the hospital.

13. Perform other duties as may be assigned by superior/s.

Qualifications:

1. Active and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)

2. Must be trained in Basic DOTS (Basic NTP-DOTS Course / Training accredited or recognized by the Department of Health), as required for facility and PhilHealth accreditation.

3. Previous experience in clinical nursing, hospital settings, or community health/TB care is preferred.

4. Proficient in basic nursing assessments, procedures, and anti-TB medication administration.

5. Good communication and patient counseling skills.

6. Strong documentation, record-keeping, and reporting abilities (including familiarity with the Integrated Tuberculosis Information System [ITIS] or electronic medical records)
