Teacher Assistant

Duties

• Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and early childhood education activities.
• Provide physical assistance and behavioral support to students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.
• Support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by helping them meet their educational goals through tailored interventions and accommodations.
• Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication strategies to facilitate effective interaction for students with communication challenges.
• Manage classroom behavior through positive behavior management techniques, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, counselors, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies for student support, including behavior management plans.
• Assist with classroom organization, including preparing materials, supervising activities, and ensuring safety during toddler care or early childhood education sessions.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, especially in special education or private school environments.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles, classroom management techniques, and behavior support strategies for students with disabilities.
• Familiarity with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), developmental disabilities, and the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, families, and other professionals.
• Experience working with students requiring physical assistance or behavioral disorder support is highly desirable.
• Basic math skills and literacy education knowledge to support academic activities across age groups from toddlers to early learners.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus
