Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers with lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementing instructional activities aligned with educational standards such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
• Provide direct support to students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral challenges, ensuring their needs are met through tailored behavior management strategies.
• Support students’ literacy and math education by facilitating activities that promote foundational skills in reading, writing, and numeracy.
• Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication techniques to enhance communication for students with communication difficulties.
• Help manage classroom behavior and implement behavior management plans to create a positive learning environment.
• Assist with physical support for students requiring mobility or other physical assistance, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, special education professionals, therapists, and families to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and adapt instructional methods accordingly.
• Support classroom routines such as childcare, preschool activities, toddler care, and Montessori-based learning environments.
• Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere for all students.

Experience

• Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including preschool or early childhood education environments such as Montessori programs.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students with disabilities or special education needs within classroom settings.
• Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies tailored for students with developmental disabilities or behavioral disorders.
• Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, literacy education, and basic math instruction.
• Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or those requiring behavioral support interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and alternative communication methods like American Sign Language (ASL).
• Previous private school or special education classroom experience is highly valued.
