Job Overview

Blocks 24-Hour Child Care Center is seeking dependable, energetic, and nurturing Teacher Assistants to join our childcare team in Oak Park, Illinois.

We are looking for individuals who genuinely enjoy working with young children and are passionate about supporting their learning, development, and overall well-being.

As a Teacher Assistant, you will work alongside our Lead Teachers to maintain a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment. You will assist with daily routines, educational activities, classroom supervision, and the individual needs of the children in our care.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teachers with daily classroom activities, lesson plans, and age-appropriate learning experiences.
• Provide a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for all children.
• Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, and transitions.
• Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Assist with daily routines, including meals, diapering, toileting, and rest periods as appropriate.
• Encourage positive behavior, independence, and age-appropriate social skills.
• Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and proper sanitation procedures.
• Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and creative activities.
• Communicate professionally with teachers, administration, and families.
• Follow all center policies, health and safety procedures, and applicable Illinois DCFS licensing requirements.
• Participate in required training and professional development.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, or early childhood setting is preferred.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Must meet applicable Illinois DCFS requirements for the position.
• Must be able to complete required background checks and childcare training.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with Lead Teachers.
• Must be patient, reliable, attentive, and enthusiastic about working with children.
• Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude.
• Early Childhood Education coursework or related credentials are a plus.
