Warrah is a vibrant community, enriching the lives of individuals through our broad range of services, which include Supported Independent Living (SIL), Community Support Services (CSS) and Warrah Specialist School. We also have a certified Biodynamic Farm and Farm Shop.

Job Description

Warrah Specialist School, located on a beautiful rural property in Dural, NSW, provides individualised education for students with moderate to severe disabilities from Kindergarten to Year 12. As Australia’s only Steiner-based special needs school, we follow Rudolf Steiner’s Curative Education principles, offering a rich, therapeutic curriculum that includes woodwork, gardening, farming, arts, and life skills. We are part of Warrah, a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with disability through a range of services.

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Teacher to join our dedicated High School team, from Term 1,2027 supporting young learners in a nurturing and inclusive environment. In this role, you will deliver engaging, tailored learning experiences for students with disabilities, contributing to their academic, social, and personal development. You will collaborate closely with support staff, families, and colleagues to provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and individualised lessons aligned with NSW Board of Studies and Steiner Education Australia Curriculum requirements.
  • Support students through Individual Education Plans tailored to their unique needs.
  • Incorporate outdoor and practical learning including woodwork, weaving, music, drama, cooking, gardening, and farming.
  • Provide personal care support to students when needed, in a respectful and dignified manner.
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practices.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and the broader Warrah community.
  • Participate in school events and contribute to the school’s warm, supportive learning environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification and current NESA accreditation.
  • Experience supporting students with intellectual disabilities and special needs, preferably in secondary settings.
  • Ability to adapt lessons to meet individual student needs, interests, and learning styles.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Empathy, professionalism, and openness to creative and innovative teaching approaches.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC) and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Valid NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • Proficiency in IT and digital teaching tools.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of or willingness to engage with Rudolf Steiner’s Curative Education principles.
  • Familiarity with NSW Board of Studies and Steiner Education curricula.
  • Experience or interest in gardening/horticulture and outdoor education.

Why Work With Us?

  • Join a supportive and passionate team in a beautiful rural setting.
  • Work within a unique Steiner-based special education environment.
  • Generous not-for-profit salary packaging, including up to $15,900 + $2,650 meal & entertainment card.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for well-being and confidential support.
