What they need
Are you a teacher who wants to make a real difference?
At Eastward House School, we believe that great teaching starts with understanding the child, not simply delivering a subject.
We are a small, independent specialist school in Cardiff, supporting pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and associated learning differences.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and adaptable teacher to join our growing team. We are open to applications from teachers across a wide range of subject specialisms and educational backgrounds.
For us, finding the right person is more important than finding someone who teaches a particular subject.
What makes teaching at Eastward House different?
Our small classes and personalised approach allow teachers to really get to know their pupils, understand how they learn and adapt their teaching accordingly.
Our curriculum spans Primary, Key Stage 3, Entry Level qualifications, GCSEs and Post-16 pathways. We recognise that pupils learn in different ways and at different stages, and our teachers have the flexibility to develop engaging, meaningful learning opportunities that reflect this.
We encourage our staff to bring their own interests, experiences and ideas into school life, whether through curriculum development, enrichment activities, outdoor learning or new opportunities for our pupils.
We are particularly interested in hearing from teachers who are passionate about making learning accessible, relevant and enjoyable.
Who are we looking for?
We would love to hear from teachers who:
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with pupils and understand the importance of trust, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Are creative, enthusiastic and willing to think differently about how learning is delivered.
- Can adapt their teaching to support pupils with a wide range of learning needs and abilities.
- Have high expectations of what pupils can achieve, regardless of their starting points.
- Enjoy working collaboratively and contributing to the wider development of a school.
- Are willing to teach across different curriculum areas where appropriate, with support from colleagues.
- Have an interest in developing their own practice and contributing to a reflective, supportive school environment.
Experience of working in a specialist ALN setting would be advantageous, but is not essential. We welcome applications from teachers in mainstream, independent and specialist education who share our approach.
The role
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging learning opportunities across agreed curriculum areas, supporting pupils working towards a range of academic and vocational outcomes.
The precise teaching responsibilities will be shaped by the successful candidate's strengths, experience and interests, alongside the needs of the school.
There may also be opportunities to contribute to curriculum leadership, develop new subject areas and support our wider enrichment and outdoor learning provision.
Why join us?
At Eastward House School, you will become part of a small, committed team where your ideas are valued and your contribution can make a genuine difference.
We offer an environment where teachers are encouraged to be creative, work collaboratively and play an active role in shaping the learning experiences of our pupils.
If you're an enthusiastic teacher who believes that education should be built around the needs of the individual child, we'd love to hear from you.
Safeguarding
Eastward House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, references, verification of qualifications and relevant Education Workforce Council registration requirements.
