What they need
Papillon House School is an independent day school for autistic children and young people, set within extensive and beautiful woodlands in Tadworth, Surrey.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher Support Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated staff team. This is a term-time-only position, with 15 weeks of school holidays each year.
About the role
As a Teacher Support Assistant, you will work closely with the Class Teacher to gain an overall awareness and understanding of the objectives for individual pupils. You will take responsibility for the class in the absence of the teacher and be responsible for implementing the Teacher’s planning and direction. Under the guidance of the Teacher you will also have some opportunity to plan and deliver your own lessons. Being part of a supportive team, you will support pupils during activities including swimming, horse riding, playtime, leisure activities and lunchtimes and help pupils to learn, develop their independence and achieve their individual goals.
An important part of the role is recognising, celebrating and recording pupils’ achievements and helping each young person to reach their potential.
You will be supported by experienced colleagues and encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills in working with autistic children and young people. We are committed to supporting your continued learning and professional development.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced (personal or professional) with autistic individuals
- Enthusiastic, patient and caring
- Willing to take on additional responsibilities
- Creative and willing to think flexibly about how best to support individual pupils
- Interested in developing a career working with autistic children and young people
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Able to understand and support pupils with a range of needs, including those who may display behaviour that can be challenging
What we offer
We believe that working at Papillon House is about more than just a job. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team in a beautiful woodland setting, where getting to know and understand each individual pupil is at the heart of what we do.
Working hours are Monday: 8.00am – 5.00pm and Tuesday – Friday: 8.00am – 4.00pm during term time.
If you are enthusiastic, caring and creative, and would like to develop a career working with autistic children and young people, we would be delighted to hear from you.
