What they need
Overview
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a compassionate, patient and committed Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at The Laurels Primary School.
The Laurels is a welcoming one-form entry primary school, part of Durrington Multi-Academy Trust, where every child is known as an individual and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
This is a permanent Teaching Assistant role, initially providing 1:1 SEND support for a child with an EHCP who is currently in Reception. The successful candidate is expected to continue supporting the child as they progress through the school.
As the child grows and develops, the role will evolve too. You will help them to access learning, develop positive relationships and become increasingly confident and independent, working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.
We are looking for someone who is kind, patient, adaptable and committed to making a real difference to children's lives. You will need to be able to build positive relationships, work effectively as part of a team and respond sensitively to a child's changing needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop their experience and expertise in supporting children with SEND while becoming a valued and permanent member of our school community.
Skills and experience we are looking for
- Experience of working with children, particularly those with additional needs.
- Ability to build a positive, trusting relationship with an individual child.
- Patience, empathy and resilience when supporting children's learning and wellbeing.
- Understanding of SEND and strategies to support communication, engagement and emotional regulation.
- Ability to adapt learning activities to meet a child's individual needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with teachers, parents and external professionals.
- Commitment to promoting independence, confidence and inclusion.
- Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting a child on a 1:1 basis.
- Knowledge of autism, speech and language needs, or social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Teaching Assistant Level 2/3 qualification or equivalent experience..
