What they need

We're Hiring – Teaching Assistant!

Thrive Learning Centre – Sutton Weaver, Runcorn

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEND)
Location: Thrive Learning Centre, Sutton Weaver, Runcorn
Salary: Starting at National Minimum Wage (age-dependent statutory rate)
Hours: Term Time Only, 08:30 - 16:30 Monday to Friday
Contract: Term Time Only

About Us

Thrive Learning Centre is a small, independent special school supporting children and young people aged 7–16 with additional educational needs, including autism, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and experiences of trauma.

We offer a nurturing, therapeutic and trauma-informed environment where every child is supported to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

We are looking for a kind, enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our growing team.

About the Role

This isn't your typical Teaching Assistant role!

Our pupils need adults who are patient, understanding, flexible and able to think outside the box. Every day is different, and we're looking for someone who can build positive relationships, celebrate small achievements and help our pupils overcome barriers to learning.

You will work alongside our teachers to support pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with their learning in small groups and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Support children with autism, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs.
  • Assist teachers with lessons, classroom activities and learning resources.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation using calm, positive and restorative approaches.
  • Encourage positive behaviour through patience, consistency and understanding.
  • Help pupils participate in creative activities, outdoor learning and life skills.
  • Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes and other school activities.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to pupils' wellbeing.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, caring and genuinely enjoys working with children.
  • Has a positive attitude and a good sense of humour.
  • Can remain calm and supportive when pupils are struggling.
  • Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication.
  • Is creative, enthusiastic and willing to try different approaches.
  • Works well as part of a small, supportive team.
  • Is reliable, flexible and willing to get involved in all aspects of school life.
  • Is keen to learn and develop their knowledge of SEND.

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND would be an advantage, but isn't essential. We are happy to consider applicants with the right attitude, patience and willingness to learn.

Why Join Thrive?

At Thrive, we believe that building relationships is just as important as delivering lessons.

We offer:

  • A small, friendly and supportive school environment.
  • Small class sizes and the opportunity to really get to know our pupils.
  • Term-time working.
  • Free meals during the school day.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of children who need a different approach to education.

Thrive Learning Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check, references and other pre-employment checks.
