Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisor – Hastings & East Sussex

Pay: £105–£150 per day

Teach South Kent is recruiting for Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisor opportunities across Hastings and the surrounding East Sussex area.

We are looking for candidates who are happy and confident working in both roles. The successful candidate will combine Teaching Assistant support with Cover Supervisor responsibilities, making this a varied opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with secondary-aged students.

About the role

This is a dual-role position, so candidates must be comfortable undertaking both Teaching Assistant duties and Cover Supervisor duties.

As a Teaching Assistant, you may support teachers in the classroom, work with individual students or small groups, and help students overcome barriers to learning.

When working as a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes in the absence of the usual teacher, follow the work provided and ensure students remain focused and engaged throughout the lesson.

The balance between the two responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the school.

Teaching Assistant responsibilities

• Supporting students with their learning and development
• Working with individuals and small groups
• Helping students overcome barriers to learning
• Supporting positive behaviour and classroom routines
• Assisting teachers with classroom activities and resources
• Providing pastoral and practical support where appropriate
• Encouraging students to develop confidence and independence

Cover Supervisor responsibilities

• Supervising classes during teacher absence
• Delivering work and instructions provided by the class teacher
• Maintaining a calm and positive learning environment
• Managing classroom behaviour appropriately
• Ensuring students remain focused and complete the work set
• Responding confidently to situations that may arise during lessons
• Providing feedback to relevant school staff following lessons

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is comfortable and willing to work across both areas of the role.

You will ideally have:

• Experience working with secondary-aged students
• Confidence managing a classroom independently
• A calm and consistent approach to behaviour management
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with young people
• A reliable, professional and flexible approach
• The confidence to support students as a Teaching Assistant and supervise classes as a Cover Supervisor

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Youth Worker, Sports Coach, Mentor or in another relevant education or people-focused role would be beneficial.
