ALP England is one of the largest providers of Alternative Learning Provision across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire. We support children and young people aged 4–18 who face barriers to accessing mainstream education by providing small-group learning in safe, supportive and engaging environments.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Learning Mentor to join our growing team. Whether you have experience mentoring young people or have a background in teaching Functional Skills in English and Maths, we would love to hear from you.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills to help inspire young people, develop their confidence and support them in achieving positive outcomes.
To support the team in the education and development of learners by providing direction, care and supervision to all students. Being able to deliver PSHE sessions and small group learning sessions in basic English and Maths is essential, and the ability to carry out general DIY tasks is desirable.
Many of our students have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or have experienced difficulties within mainstream education. Building positive relationships and becoming a trusted adult is therefore at the heart of this role.
Full training and support will be provided for the right candidate.

- Prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources for sessions and activities when required.
- Provide support by undertaking photocopying, filing and recording of information.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and GDPR, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Assist with group activities within and away from the provision, such as P.E outings, reward trips or educational visits.
- Assist the team in liaising with other professional staff and reporting information from/to parents/carers and contribute to meetings discussing students’ progress as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
- Complete professional development activities as required.

- Enjoys working with young people.
- Is patient, calm and resilient.
- Can motivate and encourage students who may have had negative educational experiences.

- Experience delivering practical training or mentoring others.
- Relevant vocational qualifications.
- Confident with basic DIY skills.
- Full training and ongoing support.
- Opportunities for career progression.
- Company pension scheme.
- Sick pay.
- Term-time only working, paid all year round.
- Additional annual leave.
- Free on-site parking.
- A friendly, supportive team.
- The opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's lives every day.
