Playback Coffee is a café rooted in craft, music, and community, located in the heart of San Pedro Square. Born from the team behind Academic Coffee and Nuvo Hospitality, Playback celebrates San Jose’s history in broadcasting and technology while showcasing some of the best coffee in California.

We’re looking for a Shift Lead who leads by example on the bar, supports their teammates, and helps uphold a thoughtful, welcoming café environment. This role is ideal for an experienced barista who enjoys mentorship, customer service, and fun music related community events.

What You’ll Do

· Lead day-to-day café shifts and serve as the point person when a manager is not present

· Work regular barista shifts while modeling Playback’s service and quality standards

· Support baristas with workflow, customer interactions, and problem-solving

· Ensure cleanliness, food safety, and opening/closing procedures are followed

· Help maintain equitable distribution of tasks during shifts

· Communicate issues, feedback, or maintenance needs to the café manager

· Assist with onboarding and coaching newer team members

· Occasionally cover shifts as agreed upon, respecting work-life boundaries

· Lift and carry coffee or boxes up to 25 lbs as needed

Schedule Expectations

· Minimum commitment of 4 days per week preferred

· At least one weekend day required

· Opening and/or closing availability expected
