Team Lead, Enterprise Data Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Data Engineering leader to join our insurance company. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic responsibility for enterprise data platforms. You will lead a team of Data Engineers while remaining actively involved in solution design and software development, driving the modernization of cloud-based data ecosystems and establishing engineering standards across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous growth
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and complex problem solving
• Support team capability development through coaching, knowledge sharing, and skill-building initiatives
• Lead the implementation and modernization of enterprise data platforms and cloud-based data ecosystems
• Design robust, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data architectures
• Develop and optimize data serving layers, semantic models, and analytical data structures
• Establish automation, monitoring, deployment pipelines, and operational governance frameworks
• Translate enterprise data architecture principles into practical engineering solutions
• Design and implement data integration solutions across enterprise applications and platforms

About you

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
• Minimum 7 years of experience in Data Engineering or related technical fields
• At least 3 years of experience in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or equivalent leadership role
• Proven experience leading and developing Data Engineering teams
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating cloud-based data platforms at scale
• Advanced programming skills in Python with experience developing enterprise-scale data solutions
• Deep understanding of Data Warehousing and Data Lake architectures, ETL/ELT frameworks, and streaming data solutions
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), container technologies, CI/CD pipelines, and orchestration tools
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database technologies
• Production experience utilizing Python, PySpark, and/or Apache Spark in enterprise environments
