About the opportunity

WPS Limited is recruiting a Team Leader for a children’s residential home in Preston, supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs.

We’re looking for someone who can provide guidance to colleagues, build positive relationships with children and remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead allocated shifts and support the safe and effective day-to-day running of the home, coordinating staff and allocating duties.
  • Ensure children receive care in line with their individual care plans and risk assessments, supporting routines, appointments, education and activities.
  • Maintain an overview of safeguarding, risk and behaviour, guiding staff through incidents, challenging situations and changes in children’s circumstances.
  • Monitor the quality and completion of staff records, incident reports and other required documentation.
  • Deliver effective shift handovers so important information is communicated to the wider team.
  • Build trusting, professionally appropriate relationships with children.
  • Challenge poor or unsafe practice, escalate significant concerns to management and contribute to audits, quality assurance and continuous improvement. Team Leader

Essential requirements

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
  • The ability to build positive, professional relationships with children and provide leadership and direction to staff.
  • Emotional resilience, the ability to remain calm under pressure and sound judgement about when to involve management.
  • The ability to follow and promote policies, procedures, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Effective teamwork, reliability, flexibility, integrity and professional accountability.
  • Availability to work the shift patterns required within a residential children’s home.
  • A full UK driving licence where driving is required by the service. Team Leader

Desirable experience and knowledge

  • Previous experience in a senior or shift-leading residential childcare role, including leading shifts within a residential care environment.
  • Knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Experience of safeguarding, incident management, risk assessments and care planning.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches. Team Leader

Pay and benefits

  • £15.25 per hour, with £54 paid per sleep-in.
  • A structured 2 on / 4 off rotating shift pattern. Team Leader

  • An employee benefits programme including salary sacrifice options, retail discounts, financial advice, and GP and counselling hotlines.
  • A quarterly employee welfare raffle with a minimum £3,000 prize pool and 20 prizes, including holidays, spa breaks and cinema vouchers.
  • Support towards your Level 4 qualification, a Blue Light Card offering discounts on major brands, and a supportive environment to develop your career.
  • A company vehicle for work purposes. Team Leader
