About the Opportunity

As Team Leader - Mining, you will lead a highly specialised team responsible for regulating South Australia's mining and mineral processing industries. This is an influential leadership position that combines strategic oversight, technical expertise, and people leadership to drive safer outcomes across one of the state's most complex and high-risk sectors. Working with industry operators, government agencies, technical specialists, and the wider community, you will play a critical role in ensuring regulatory activities are targeted, evidence-based, and focused on the Principal Mining Hazards defined in the Work Health and Safety Act 2012. Your leadership will help shape compliance and prevention strategies across active, emerging and legacy mining operations, contributing to the continuous improvement of work health and safety performance throughout the sector.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and develop a team of specialist inspectors, providing direction, coaching and support to achieve operational objectives and deliver high-quality regulatory outcomes.
  • Influence safety performance across the mining, quarrying, mineral exploration and mineral processing sectors through risk-based compliance, enforcement and preventive initiatives.
  • Build trusted relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders by providing expert advice and guidance on complex work health and safety matters.
  • Drive the design and delivery of proactive compliance campaigns that identify emerging risks, promote industry awareness and improve safety outcomes.
  • Provide expert leadership and technical oversight for the investigation of significant incidents, supporting inspectors and investigators to make sound, evidence-based regulatory decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of regulatory strategy, helping SafeWork SA respond to changing industry practices, emerging technologies and evolving workplace risks.

This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference to worker safety across South Australia's mining industry while leading a team of highly skilled professionals. The position is ideally suited to a leader who enjoys balancing technical expertise, strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and people leadership in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.
