Technical Accountant

Interim Technical Accountant | Cumbria | 6-Month Contract | Day rate negotiable | Hybrid

We're supporting a business undergoing a period of finance and systems improvement as they look to appoint an experienced Interim Technical Accountant.

This is a hands-on assignment for a technically strong ACA who enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, strengthening controls and helping finance teams navigate change.

The finance leadership team has identified several key priorities across financial reporting, reconciliations, controls and system development. They are looking for someone who can quickly assess issues, provide technical accounting expertise and ensure reporting remains robust throughout a period of transformation.

A significant part of the role will involve acting as the finance lead on ongoing Workday developments, ensuring accounting, reporting and tax implications are fully considered throughout the design and implementation process.

Responsibilities

• Taking ownership of key month-end and year-end reporting activities, ensuring technical accuracy and audit readiness.
• Leading complex balance sheet reconciliations and resolving longstanding accounting issues, including VAT-related matters.
• Reviewing and strengthening financial controls to improve the integrity of reporting and reduce risk.
• Acting as the finance lead for Workday developments, ensuring accounting, reporting and tax requirements are reflected in system design.
• Providing technical accounting guidance on reporting changes, process improvements and upcoming accounting developments.

About You

• ACA qualified with a strong technical accounting background.
• Excellent understanding of financial reporting, balance sheet integrity, controls and tax considerations.
• Proven experience resolving complex accounting issues and improving control environments.
• Comfortable working alongside finance systems and ERP projects, with Workday exposure highly advantageous.
• A proactive self-starter capable of leading projects, influencing stakeholders and delivering results independently.
