About MAVI
MAVI is an AI-powered finance and accounting talent platform connecting experienced global finance professionals with high-growth US companies.
Our clients range from venture-backed startups to scaling mid-market businesses building modern finance organizations. Our team has experience across companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We work with professionals throughout the placement process, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding and ongoing career development.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Accounting Manager to lead technical accounting and financial reporting for US-based businesses.
This role is responsible for determining and documenting the accounting treatment of complex and non-routine transactions under US GAAP, while managing the month-end close and supporting the wider accounting function.
Candidates with experience as Technical Accounting Managers, Accounting Managers, Assistant Controllers, or public accounting seniors and managers transitioning into industry are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, conclude on, and document technical accounting positions under US GAAP, and maintain the supporting memoranda
- Serve as the primary technical accounting resource for the accounting team, finance leadership, and external auditors
- Manage revenue recognition under ASC 606, including contract review, performance obligation assessment, allocation, timing, and the deferred revenue roll-forward
- Manage lease accounting under ASC 842 and stock-based compensation under ASC 718, including the underlying schedules
- Assess the accounting treatment of complex and non-routine transactions, including new contract structures, equity transactions, impairment indicators, capitalisation matters, and business combinations
- Lead the assessment and adoption of new accounting standards and quantify the impact on the financial statements
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, with accountability for the close calendar, quality of output, and cycle time
- Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and fixed assets
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies
- Manage the technical components of the annual audit, including preparation of position papers, response to auditor queries, and resolution of findings
- Develop and maintain accounting policies that translate technical conclusions into consistent treatment across the function
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
- Prepare and analyse financial reports and KPIs for US stakeholders
- Support process improvements, automation initiatives, and ERP implementations, including revenue and lease system configuration
- Mentor accounting team members, review their work, and develop technical capability across the team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 6–8+ years of accounting experience, including significant US exposure
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, with demonstrated depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606); experience with ASC 842 and ASC 718 strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical accounting memoranda subject to review or audit
- Experience managing the complete month-end and year-end close process
- Experience presenting and supporting technical positions with external auditors
- Team leadership or people management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical accounting matters to non-accountants
Preferred Experience
- CPA, CA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification
- Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience
- Multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany experience
- Experience in SaaS, professional services, or growth-stage businesses
- Experience supporting an ASC 606 or ASC 842 adoption, a first audit, or an ERP implementation
- Exposure to business combinations, purchase accounting, or impairment assessments
Technical Skills
- QuickBooks Online/Desktop, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or Xero
- Familiarity with revenue and lease management tools such as NetSuite ARM, Zuora, Chargebee, Maxio, or LeaseQuery
- Microsoft Excel (Advanced); Power BI or reporting tools preferred
What We're Looking For
- Strong ownership mentality with attention to detail
- Sound technical judgement and disciplined documentation practices
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Client-first mindset with exceptional communication abilities
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting private equity-backed or high-growth businesses
- Exposure to KPI reporting and board reporting
- Exposure to US multi-state tax, international entities, or transfer pricing
Why Join Through MAVI
- Work with high-growth US companies building and scaling modern finance organizations
- Own the technical accounting agenda rather than applying decisions made elsewhere
- Work to US GAAP with US auditors and US systems, on the standard that supports international career opportunities
- Build depth in ASC 606, ASC 842, and ASC 718 that transfers across employers and markets
- Gain exposure to audits, standard adoptions, and ERP implementations
- Develop toward future Controller, Head of Accounting, and Head of Finance opportunities through MAVI
- Long-term placement with a single client rather than rotation across accounts
- Receive support from MAVI throughout placement, onboarding, and the ongoing engagement
- Compensation in USD or USD-equivalent
Work Arrangement
This is a fully remote role. You will be placed with a single US client company for the duration of the engagement rather than rotated across accounts, and you will work directly with US-based leadership, auditors, and external partners.
Candidates should be comfortable maintaining meaningful overlap with US business hours.
