Help deliver essential services that keep our communities thriving

Are you passionate about improving systems, managing information, and finding smarter ways of working?

Do you enjoy being the person who keeps things organised, accurate, and running smoothly behind the scenes?

Waimakariri District Council is seeking a Technical Administrator - Water Services to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term basis to provide parental leave cover. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of essential water services that support the health, wellbeing, and growth of our district.

In this varied role, you'll work closely with our Water Services team, providing specialist administrative, systems, and information management support across drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater operations. Your work will help ensure critical services remain efficient, compliant, and responsive to the needs of our community.

Whether you're improving processes, maintaining key business systems, supporting compliance activities, or helping turn data into meaningful information, you'll play an important role in helping us deliver services that residents rely on every day.

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are quite the same. You'll be the go-to person for maintaining key Water Services systems, supporting operational teams, managing important compliance programmes, and driving improvements to the way information is managed and shared.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Manage and improve systems, databases, workflows, and automation processes.
  • Support the delivery of critical water supply, wastewater, and stormwater services across the district.
  • Investigate and research information to support operational and asset management decisions.
  • Coordinate compliance programmes and customer communications.
  • Maintain and improve business processes, procedures, and knowledge management systems.
  • Contribute to customer-focused information and digital content.
  • Work closely with technical specialists while building your own knowledge of the water services industry.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning new systems, and finding better ways of working.

You will bring:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Confidence using technology and business systems.
  • Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A collaborative and customer-focused approach.

Previous experience in local government, infrastructure, utilities, or compliance administration is an advantage, but not essential. Candidates from other backgrounds with relevant skills and a commitment to learning are also encouraged to apply.

Why Join Us?

At Waimakariri District Council, we're committed to making Waimakariri a great place to be. We value innovation, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement, and we're proud of the positive impact our people have on the communities we serve.

In return, you'll enjoy:

  • Meaningful work that supports essential community services.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Opportunities to develop your technical, systems, and process improvement skills.
  • The chance to contribute ideas and influence how we work.
  • A workplace culture that values wellbeing, growth, and professional development.
