About the Project

Brainydaps Technology Limited is seeking a skilled Technical Book Writing Assistant to help write, develop, and prepare a machine learning book for publication.

The book is designed primarily for readers whose first language is not English, particularly African readers, with a focus on the Nigerian audience. The goal is to make machine learning concepts accessible, engaging, practical, and easy to understand without compromising technical accuracy.

The writer will receive the author's personal story and the technical content, materials, and guidance required to develop the book. The successful candidate will transform these materials into a well-structured, reader-friendly book that combines technical explanations with effective storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Book Writing and Content Development
• Write the book using the technical materials, outlines, and guidance provided by the company.
• Explain machine learning concepts in clear, simple, and accessible English suitable for non-native English speakers.
• Incorporate the author's personal story into the book where appropriate, maintaining the author's intended voice, experiences, and message.
• Use relatable examples, analogies, and storytelling techniques to make technical concepts easier to understand.
• Organise the book into logical chapters and sections with a consistent flow.
• Technical Content Presentation
• Present AI and machine learning concepts accurately and in a beginner-friendly manner.
• Collaborate with the company to clarify technical information where necessary.
• Ensure that explanations, examples, code snippets, and other technical materials are consistent with the supplied source materials.
• Avoid unnecessary jargon or explain technical terms clearly when they are introduced.
• Illustrations and Supporting Materials
• Research and source appropriate royalty-free illustrations, diagrams, tables, and other visual materials.
• Include relevant code examples and code snippets where required by the book's content.
• Ensure that all third-party materials are legally suitable for the intended publication and that applicable attribution or licensing requirements are satisfied.
• Organise supporting materials so they are properly integrated into the manuscript.
• Proofreading and Editing
• Proofread and edit the complete manuscript for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, consistency, and readability.
• Review the book for structural issues, repetition, awkward phrasing, and inconsistencies.
• Revise the manuscript based on the company's feedback until it meets the agreed publication-ready standard.
• Ensure consistency in terminology, formatting, references, captions, and chapter structure.
• Book Formatting and Publication Preparation
• Use appropriate book-writing and manuscript-formatting software to prepare the book for publication.
• Format the manuscript according to the requirements of the agreed publishing platform.
• Prepare the required manuscript files and supporting assets for submission.
• Coordinate revisions and submission-related requirements until the book is successfully published.
• Project and Time Management
• Work according to an agreed writing schedule, milestones, and delivery deadlines.
• Provide regular progress updates and communicate any challenges promptly.
• Manage assigned tasks independently and meet agreed deadlines.
• Respond to feedback and complete revisions within agreed timeframes.

Required Qualifications and Skills1. Proven Book-Writing Experience

Applicants must have at least three published books available online.

• A portfolio containing links to published books is mandatory.
• Books published on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) or other recognised online publishing platforms will be accepted.
• Applicants must demonstrate their actual contribution to the books submitted as evidence.
• Experience writing educational, technical, instructional, or nonfiction books will be an advantage.

2. Basic to Intermediate Knowledge of AI and Machine Learning

The applicant should have a basic to intermediate understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

This knowledge may be demonstrated through one or more of the following:

• Relevant AI or machine learning certifications.
• Completion of an AI or machine learning bootcamp.
• Relevant technical training or coursework.
• Other credible evidence of foundational technical knowledge.

Advanced AI expertise is not required. The company will provide the technical content and supporting materials needed for the writing assignment. However, the writer must understand the fundamentals sufficiently to interpret the materials accurately and communicate them clearly.

3. Excellent English and Storytelling Skills

• Strong command of written English, including grammar, punctuation, and sentence construction.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas in simple, natural, and accessible language.
• Strong storytelling skills and the ability to maintain a reader's interest.
• Sensitivity to the learning needs, language challenges, and practical experiences of African readers, particularly Nigerians.
• Ability to write naturally rather than producing generic, repetitive, or overly mechanical prose.

4. Familiarity with Book-Writing Software

The applicant must be comfortable using appropriate tools for drafting, editing, organising, and formatting books.

Examples include Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Scrivener, Atticus, Vellum, or comparable tools. Familiarity with Amazon KDP manuscript requirements or similar publishing workflows is an advantage.

5. Reliability and Attention to Detail

• Strong time-management and organisational skills.
• Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to incorporate feedback and carry out revisions.
• Attention to technical accuracy, formatting, and publication requirements.
• Professional communication and accountability throughout the engagement.

Compensation and Payment Terms

The contract offers a one-time payment of ₦300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) for the successful completion and publication of the book.

Payment is conditional upon the successful publication of the completed book, not merely the submission of a draft manuscript.

The successful contractor will be expected to deliver the complete manuscript, supporting materials, proofreading and editing, publication-ready formatting, and agreed revisions as part of the contract.

Before work begins, the company and the selected contractor will agree in writing on the project scope, target publishing platform, manuscript specifications, milestones, revision expectations, and the meaning of successful publication.

The agreed terms will also specify how the parties will handle publication delays, platform rejection, and circumstances beyond the contractor's control.

• Portfolio: Links to at least three books they have written or substantially contributed to and that are published online.
• Relevant Qualifications: Copies or links to AI/ML certifications, bootcamp credentials, or other evidence of foundational knowledge.
• Writing Sample: A short sample demonstrating the ability to explain a technical concept in simple English.
• Software Experience: A brief description of the book-writing, editing, and publishing tools they have used.
• Availability: Their estimated availability and proposed timeline for completing the project.
• Brief Introduction: A short explanation of why they are suitable for this assignment, particularly their experience writing for beginners or readers whose first language is not English.

Applications that do not include a verifiable portfolio of at least three published books will not be considered.

Pay: ₦100,000.00 - ₦300,000.00 per month
