About Sound Lab Consultants

Sound Lab Consultants, a division of Progressive Business Consulting, LLC, provides CLIA technical consultant oversight and compliance support to moderate-complexity clinical laboratories across the United States, including physician offices, urgent care centers, cardiology and specialty practices, and emergency departments. Our consultants work as a team, so every client laboratory has continuous, well-documented oversight and no consultant carries a location alone.

The Role

Our Technical Consultants keep client laboratories accurate, compliant, and inspection-ready. You will be the primary consultant for a group of laboratories and the backup consultant for others, working from a defined set of procedures and documenting everything in one platform so any teammate can step in when needed.

This is a full-time, salaried position. You are not paid per site and your pay does not depend on whether a client has paid their invoice.

What You Will Do

• Serve as CLIA technical consultant for an assigned group of client laboratories under 42 CFR 493.1413

– Review quality control, calibration, and maintenance data each month and sign off on findings

Review graded proficiency testing results and investigate unsatisfactory results

Perform and document competency assessments of testing personnel using all six CLIA elements

Perform method verification studies for new tests and instruments: accuracy, precision, reportable range, and reference intervals

Review and update procedure manuals and quality documents

Troubleshoot analyzer problems with laboratory staff and manufacturers

Help laboratories prepare for inspections and respond to citations and plans of correction

Serve as backup consultant for teammates' laboratories and cover during their absences

Document all work in MyLabCompliance.io, our compliance management platform

What We Are Looking For

• Meets CLIA technical consultant qualifications under 42 CFR 493.1411: generally a bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, plus at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience in non-waived testing in the relevant specialties

– Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred

Current state laboratory personnel license where required, or the ability to obtain one. A California license is a strong plus

Experience with hematology, chemistry, immunoassay, coagulation, or blood gas platforms common in physician office, urgent care, and emergency department laboratories

Accurate, timely documentation habits and comfort managing deadlines across many locations

Professional communication with laboratory directors, office managers, and inspectors

Home office with reliable high-speed internet and a private space for confidential calls

How We Work

• 100% remote. You work from your home office. There is no office to report to and no daily commute.

– Company systems You connect remotely to Company computers. Client records stay in that environment

A real schedule. Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM in your own time zone, with a 30-minute meal break and two paid rest breaks. No weekends in the normal course of business.

Travel is optional. On-site visits are offered as they come up and you may accept or decline. When you accept, the Company pays airfare or mileage, lodging, ground transportation, and meals, and pays a trip stipend on top of your regular wages.

Pay and Benefits

Pay range: starts at $28.00 per hour. Where a range is shown, the offer within it is based on seniority, credentials, licensure, and experience. Rates are reviewed annually.
