About Wool&Prince

Wool&Prince is a merino wool apparel company operating two brands, Wool&Prince and wool&. We are a team of 25 based in Portland, Oregon.

wool& makes clothing for women who don’t want to sacrifice style to wear their favorite natural material—merino wool.

Wool&Prince brings the time-tested benefits of merino wool to menswear. We believe you get more out of life when you have fewer—but better—things.

Job Description

The Technical Designer & Pattern Maker owns the technical development, fit, patternmaking, construction, and quality execution of wool& and Wool&Prince styles from design handoff through production. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate technical documentation, proactively managing development timelines, and ensuring every style meets the company’s standards for fit, quality, construction, consistency, and market readiness.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Portland, Oregon.

About You

You bring strong patternmaking and fit expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a consistent record of follow-through. You are comfortable working independently, driving development forward, and taking full ownership of your styles from initial handoff through production. You maintain high standards for product quality, identify and resolve issues early, and reliably deliver accurate, production-ready work on time.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical design, fit, patternmaking, construction, and quality execution for assigned styles from design handoff through production approval.
  • Manage style development against the Time and Action calendar, ensuring fit reviews, pattern revisions, technical deliverables, and approvals are completed accurately and on time.
  • Draft, revise, and correct patterns to achieve intended fit, balance, proportion, construction, and production feasibility.
  • Lead fit sessions and provide clear, decisive direction regarding fit, pattern, grading, construction, and workmanship.
  • Translate design intent into accurate, production-ready specifications, tech packs, measurement standards, grade rules, fit comments, and pattern revisions.
  • Measure, evaluate, and prepare samples for fit sessions, ensuring all required information and materials are complete and ready in advance.
  • Maintain consistent fit, grading, construction, and workmanship standards across men’s and women’s product categories.
  • Lead clear and timely communication with vendors, holding development partners accountable to required timelines, quality standards, and corrective actions.
  • Partner closely with Design, Product Development, Production, and vendors to proactively identify fit, pattern, construction, quality, costing, and lead-time risks and recommend practical solutions before they affect production or delivery.
  • Wash and evaluate development samples for functionality, durability, fit retention, and overall quality, recommending corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain and update technical design standards and relevant sections of the vendor manual.
  • Travel to factories as required to evaluate fit, patternmaking, construction, quality, and production challenges firsthand.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant apparel experience.
  • Advanced understanding of garment fit, balance, construction, grading, specifications, and manufacturing methods.
  • Professional experience in technical design and apparel patternmaking, including hands-on pattern drafting and correction.
  • Proficiency in PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, and Google Workspace. Experience with Browzwear is a plus.
  • Motivated, collaborative self-starter with strong strategic thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet calendar deadlines, and deliver accurate, complete technical work in a fast-paced product-development environment.

Our Values

  • Positive, transparent, inclusive.
  • Question assumptions. Experiment often. Fail fast and cheap. Learn and improve.
  • Well done is better than well said.
