About the Role

As the Civil & Structural Technical Director, you will be the North America regional lead for the Civil & Structural (C&S) discipline, reporting to the global C&S Director. You will lead the development, design, coordination, and successful delivery of civil and structural engineering services for complex data center and mission critical projects, build and lead the regional C&S team, strengthen client relationships, and take ownership of commercial outcomes while working closely with colleagues across our global offices.

Technical leadership and design excellence

You will lead structural engineering design and set the technical direction for the C&S team, working with clients and internal and external design teams through all stages of the design process. You will own engineering quality, including designs, drawings, specifications, and contract documents, and ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, with sustainability and safety considered throughout.

Project delivery and commercial ownership

You will coach C&S team leads to identify scope and schedule changes through the Change Control Process and maintain planning and cost control on all scopes. You will make project and resource decisions, maintain project commercial dashboards, and support invoicing.

People leadership and team development

You will build, lead, mentor, and develop a team of civil and structural engineers, including entry-level engineers. You will manage team performance against the team plan with a focus on profitability, identify training and development needs, and foster a culture grounded in accountability, integrity, simplicity, inclusion, and recognition.

Client relationships and business growth

You will represent Black & White Engineering and the C&S discipline at client and external meetings, lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and take an active role in client acquisition and management.

Global collaboration and influence

You will maintain close communication with the global C&S discipline, align with global company direction, projects, systems, and processes, and share resources and knowledge across offices. You will undertake existing-structure surveys and condition assessments and travel domestically and internationally when project and business needs require it.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Prior experience leading Civil or Structural engineering teams.
• Experience leading complex civil and structural design and specification for a range of building types; data center or mission critical experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of civil and structural engineering through all stages of the design process, including structural analysis and design using current tools and software.
• Working knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements, codes, standards, and key health and safety requirements.
• A team builder who supports others through training and mentoring.
• Ability to travel to project sites.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
