Are you an experienced Technical Director, Engineering Director or Head of Engineering looking for a role where you can influence business strategy, lead ambitious product development programmes and build a high-performing engineering function?

We’re working with an established, technology-led engineering business to appoint a Technical Director who will play a pivotal role in its future growth, technology strategy and product innovation.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad engineering function, working at senior leadership level while driving new product introduction (NPI), strengthening engineering capability and ensuring successful delivery from concept through to manufacture.

🚀 The Opportunity

You’ll lead the technical direction of the business, balancing exciting new product development with the ongoing performance, reliability and improvement of an established product portfolio.

Your remit will span technology strategy, engineering leadership, product development and operational performance, giving you the opportunity to influence both technical decisions and wider commercial outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Technology Strategy: Define and deliver the technology roadmap, identifying opportunities for innovation, product differentiation and long-term growth.
• New Product Introduction: Lead next-generation product development from concept and design through verification, validation, launch and volume manufacture.
• Engineering Leadership: Develop and inspire multidisciplinary teams, strengthen management capability and create a culture of technical excellence and accountability (you will have a team of 35 in the R&D but these are reporting to the Head of Engineering who reports to you).
• NPI & Sustaining Engineering: Establish the right balance between innovation, new product delivery, product upgrades and ongoing engineering support.
• Commercial Ownership: Manage engineering budgets, resource planning, project delivery and performance against strategic objectives.
• Operational Excellence: Work closely with manufacturing, operations, quality and supply chain teams to improve product quality, reliability, cost and manufacturability.
• Continuous Improvement: Enhance engineering processes, programme governance and development methodologies to improve delivery and business performance.

🎯 What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from established engineering leaders who can combine strategic thinking with a proven track record of delivering complex engineered products.

You may currently be a Technical Director, Engineering Director, Head of Engineering, Head of R&D or an experienced senior engineering leader ready to take the next step.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A track record of delivering new products from concept through to production.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering or R&D teams.
• Strong knowledge of NPI, product development and manufacturing transfer.
• Experience with technology roadmaps, engineering budgets and resource management.
• The ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate business objectives into engineering priorities.
• A commercially minded approach to innovation, quality and continuous improvement.

Experience in electronics, electromechanical systems, instrumentation, industrial technology or other complex engineering environments would be advantageous. We’re open to transferable experience from a range of technology-led industries.
