Technical Director – Digital Platforms

We are looking for an experienced Technical Director to provide technical leadership across the design and delivery of large-scale digital platforms within the media, entertainment and consumer technology space .

This is a senior, client-facing position combining technical architecture, engineering leadership and complex programme delivery . You will work with major organisations and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-performance digital products used by large consumer audiences.

You will take technical ownership throughout the project lifecycle, from initial discovery, requirements and solution design through estimation, development, delivery, launch and ongoing evolution.

The role requires someone who combines strong technical credibility with excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills . You will be comfortable leading architectural discussions, challenging technical decisions, guiding engineering teams and communicating complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You will bring broad experience across modern web, backend and mobile technologies , with the ability to understand how different components work together within complex, multi-platform environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership and accountability across large-scale digital projects and platforms .
• Lead solution architecture and technical decision-making across complex, multi-platform environments.
• Work closely with engineering, product, delivery and commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead technical discovery, requirements gathering, estimation and delivery planning.
• Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders.
• Manage technical risks, challenges and escalations throughout delivery.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Drive high standards across architecture, engineering quality, documentation and delivery .
• Support teams in continuously improving engineering practices and ways of working.
• Contribute to technical specifications, architecture documentation and key technical decisions.
• Ensure solutions are designed with performance, scalability, reliability and maintainability in mind.

Key Experience

The successful candidate will bring:

• Proven experience leading the technical delivery of large-scale, multi-platform digital products or programmes .
• A strong background within digital media, entertainment technology, consumer platforms or another high-scale technology environment .
• Broad technical knowledge across web, backend, APIs, cloud and mobile application development .
• Strong solution architecture experience within complex digital environments.
• Experience leading projects involving multiple technologies, engineering disciplines and workstreams.
• Strong requirements gathering, technical estimation and delivery planning capabilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience working directly with senior customers and business leaders.
• The confidence to manage complex technical discussions, challenges and escalations.
• A track record of mentoring and developing engineering teams through hands-on technical leadership.
• Good understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and DevOps practices .
• Strong practical knowledge of Agile software delivery .
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Experience working with high-traffic consumer applications, video or content platforms, international projects or distributed engineering teams would be advantageous.

This position is offered on a UK employment contract , and candidates must currently be based in the United Kingdom .
