What they need
Position Summary:
Redfish Productions is looking for a Technical Director to own the technical side of our live events, from the first design drawing to the last truck out. You'll be responsible for audio, video, lighting, staging, scenic, and rigging across our shows, and you'll lead the crews, vendors, and shop that make them happen. This role works directly with the owners and our producers to turn creative ideas into shows that are safe, on budget, and executed flawlessly.
This role is built for an experienced technical leader who is ready to own a department. You know your way around a load-in, you can read and build a technical rider, and you stay calm when something breaks ten minutes before doors. If you want to grow with a company that operates nationally and is expanding, this is your next step.
About Redfish Productions:
Redfish Productions is a premier event production company specializing in transforming complex event ideas into flawless, unforgettable experiences. With over 25 years of experience and thousands of events produced globally, we handle everything from strategy and creative to full-scale production and analytics for brands, bands, agencies, organizations and beyond.
We craft unforgettable live events.
To become a global force in live event production and lead the industry in innovative, ROI-driven event solutions that push creative boundaries while ensuring safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
These are the backbone of our business and guide our hiring process: we are inspirational, disciplined, accountable, transparent, aligned, and results oriented. This company operates nationally and is growing.
Performance Objectives:
- Lead technical design for each event: audio, video, lighting, staging, scenic, and rigging
- Create and review technical drawings, plots, specs, and equipment lists; advance venues and review venue riders
- Build and manage technical budgets, rental orders, and labor estimates in partnership with producers
- Source, hire, and schedule freelance crew; negotiate with and manage AV, staging, and rental vendors
- Run load-in, show, and strike on site as the technical lead, solving problems in real time
- Own safety on site, including rigging plans, power distribution, and compliance with venue and local requirements
- Manage the shop and inventory: gear maintenance, prep and returns, purchasing recommendations, and shop staff
- Document each show and lead post-event reviews to improve process, cost, and quality
Core Competencies:
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Director, Production Manager, or lead technician in live events, corporate events, concerts, or touring
- Strong working knowledge of audio, video, lighting, staging, and rigging systems
- Ability to read and create technical drawings; experience with Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or similar
- Experience managing crews and vendors and keeping shows on budget
- Clear, professional communication with clients, producers, venues, and crew
- Comfortable with long, physical show days and irregular hours
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and AI tools; comfortable using AI in everyday work, with a willingness to learn project management tools like Monday.com
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including frequent trips to New York, for site visits, load-ins, and event execution
- Ability to stay calm and think clearly under pressure on high-stakes show days
Preferred Qualifications:
- Rigging certification (ETCP or equivalent) or formal rigging training
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Experience with LED walls, video switching, and media servers
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Benefits:
We offer competitive benefits to support your growth, including flexible hours, professional development opportunities, and access to our PPF Goals Program (Personal, Professional, and Financial), which provides personalized coaching, skill-building workshops, and financial planning resources to help you thrive in all aspects of life. Additional perks may include health insurance and paid time off.
