Technical Director - Ship Management

We are looking for a General Manager - Technical to lead the technical function of an international ship management company in Limassol, Cyprus: a senior leader who takes full ownership of Technical, Purchasing and Newbuilding and reports directly to the Managing Director.

Our client is an established international ship management company, with its technical operation based in Limassol, Cyprus. It provides full ship management on behalf of owners - technical management, procurement, drydock and newbuilding supervision, HSQE, insurance and claims support, and crewing oversight. The business runs on a modern, client-centric operating model built around direct senior accountability, disciplined technical execution, transparent procurement and clear financial reporting.

We are looking for an experienced manager to take the technical function and run it end to end. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you own the Technical, Purchasing and Newbuilding departments - setting standards, controlling cost, and making sure every vessel is operated safely, compliantly and to a high commercial standard.

This is a hands-on senior seat, not a narrow remit inside a large structure. You have real decision-making authority, a direct line to the top, and the room to shape how the department works as the business grows. Think of it as being accountable for the technical health of the fleet and the discipline of the budget behind it.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Technical, Purchasing and Newbuilding teams, ensuring safe, environmentally responsible and cost-efficient operation of the fleet.
• Own the technical budget and drive disciplined, transparent cost control.
• Oversee drydock planning and execution, newbuilding supervision and procurement.
• Maintain compliance with ISM, class rules, IMO regulations and industry standards; represent the company at classification and technical meetings.
• Uphold strong HSQE performance and a culture of safe, ethical operation.
• Partner with ownership and senior management on transparent reporting and key operational decisions.

What We're Looking For

• Strong senior-level experience within a ship management company, in technical or fleet management.
• A degree in engineering, physical sciences, management or a related technical field - or equivalent formal education combined with at least 6 years of senior-level experience in ship management operations.
• A proven track record of leading technical teams, with solid command of budgeting, cost control and compliance (ISM, class, IMO).
• Based in Cyprus, or able to work on-site in Limassol.
• Fluent English.
• Bulk carrier experience and a seagoing background (Chief Officer or Chief Engineer) are a strong plus, as is hands-on exposure to newbuilding supervision and drydock management.
