Technical Documentation Creator

1. Summary of Duties:

Create and maintain clear technical documents and illustrations that help customers, installers, service personnel and employees understand, install, operate and maintain Explospot products and systems. Translate engineering information into practical written instructions and visual explanations, working closely with Quality, Engineering and other technical specialists.

2. Role and Responsibilities:

• 2.1 Write and update product manuals, installation guides, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, troubleshooting guides and technical datasheets.
• 2.2 Gather source information from engineers, drawings, CAD models, specifications and hands-on product demonstrations. Clarify missing or conflicting details before publication.
• 2.3 Create technical illustrations, diagrams, exploded views, assembly sequences, annotated photographs and component identification images.
• 2.4 Convert complex technical information into logical instructions appropriate to the intended reader. Keep terminology, units, warnings and references consistent throughout each document.
• 2.5 Prepare document layouts, contents pages, figure references and publication files using agreed company templates. Maintain editable source files as well as issued PDF versions.
• 2.6 Coordinate technical review with the responsible engineers and product specialists. Incorporate feedback and obtain the required approval before issuing documents.
• 2.7 Maintain document numbers, revision histories, product applicability and organised source files. Update affected text and illustrations when approved product changes occur.
• 2.8 Prepare illustrated training and service materials and support technical content for proposals or product presentations when required.

3. Auxiliary Activities:

• Plan documentation tasks and communicate progress, dependencies and deadlines. Attend technical discussions and observe assembly or installation activities to understand the products. Maintain a reusable illustration collection and suggest improvements to documentation templates and workflows.

4. Preferred Qualifications:

• 4.1 Grade 12 (Matric).
• 4.2 Diploma or degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Industrial Design or a related field.
• 4.3 Previous experience in technical writing, technical illustration or product documentation.
• 4.4 Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, including templates, styles, tables and PDF output.
• 4.5 Ability to read engineering drawings and work from CAD models, with practical experience in illustration or graphics software.
• 4.6 Fluent in English and Afrikaans, written and spoken.
• 4.7 Strong attention to detail and vigilance in checking technical accuracy and safety information.
• 4.8 Good communication and organisational skills.
• 4.9 Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

5. Preferred Experience:

• 5.1 Experience in a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
• 5.2 Knowledge of document control, numbering and revision management processes.
• 5.3 Experience preparing illustrated training, service or installation material.
