Technical Engineer (IT, Networks, Telecommunications)

The international news agency AFP (Agence France-Presse) seeks an experienced, dynamic Technical Engineer with expertise in IT, networks, and telecommunications to ensure the smooth operation of our technical infrastructure.

You will bring a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You are flexible, conscientious, reliable, hardworking, and eager to learn. You have a service-focused mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

You will interact with users and clients, respond to emergencies when needed, and occasionally work outside regular office hours, including weekends.

You will serve as a key technical point of contact for AFP clients across Malaysia and the region, providing expertise and support for AFP’s content delivery platforms and services, including APIs, FTP distribution, AFPTV Live and AFP News. You will assist clients with technical onboarding, troubleshooting and service-related enquiries, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and service continuity.

You will also accompany the Kuala Lumpur Commercial Manager during client meetings and presentations, providing technical expertise, gathering customer requirements, and supporting the development of AFP’s products and services. This role requires the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and to build strong relationships with clients and partners.

You will install, configure, and maintain IT equipment, including computers, smartphones, servers, video equipment, and peripherals. You will also manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. You will ensure the reliable operation of telecommunications systems, including VoIP and traditional telephony.

Besides, you will provide technical support to staff, resolving hardware and software issues promptly.

You will monitor system performance and implement necessary upgrades or repairs, as well as maintaining accurate documentation of IT assets, network configurations, and procedures.

You will collaborate with the global IT team to implement and maintain security policies and procedures. You will ensure compliance with local and international regulations regarding IT and telecommunications.

You will oversee building maintenance and safety, including electrical and air-conditioning systems.

The position requires also to ensure the inventory, maintenance, and management of laptops, photo and video equipment.

You will report to the Technical Manager in Hong Kong as well as to the Bureau Chief in Kuala Lumpur.- Proven experience as an IT Technician, Network Technician, Technical Engineer or similar role.

• Strong knowledge of IT systems, networks, and telecommunications.
• An operational knowledge of video production and broadcast will be considered as a key advantage.
• Proficiency in English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese and Bahasa Melayu
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
