Job Summary

Seeking experienced Software Engineers to join its Interview Engineer Community. Interview Engineers conduct live technical interviews for software engineering candidates on behalf of leading technology companies worldwide.

This remote contract role is ideal for engineers who enjoy coding, evaluating technical talent, mentoring others, and creating fair, consistent, and high-quality interview experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct live technical interviews through Karat's platform.
• Evaluate coding ability, problem-solving, technical knowledge, communication, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Assess coding style, debugging approaches, and overall interview performance.
• Provide objective, structured written evaluations after each interview.
• Explain technical concepts and coding challenges clearly and lead thoughtful technical discussions.
• Create a professional, engaging, and positive candidate experience.
• Collaborate with Karat on interview quality, content, and process improvements.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and maintaining production software systems.
• Experience working in a professional software engineering environment.
• Experience communicating technical concepts and evaluating technical solutions in English.

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Technical interviewing experience.
• Software engineering mentoring, coaching, teaching, or training experience.
• Technical leadership experience.
• Code review and engineering feedback experience.
• Senior, Staff, Lead, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Management experience with continued technical involvement.

Required Skills

• Software Engineering & Programming: Strong coding proficiency in at least one of Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
• Data Structures & Algorithms: Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, debugging, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Technical Communication & Evaluation: Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to conduct technical discussions, evaluate coding solutions, ask effective follow-up questions, and provide structured feedback.
